Thornhill Racing Circuit opening race – Report

Thornhill Racing Circuit opening race – Report

After months of anticipation, Thornhill Racing Circuit’s gates opened for the first time on July 4th as racers from USA, Mexico, and Brazil gathered to run the first competitive laps at the new facility for the Grand Opening presented by FTW, Avid, RC America, Xray, Hudy, Hobby Pro USA, Beta, and VP Powermaster. Practice on Friday afforded the first opportunity for racers to experience the magnitude of the nation’s largest track. Designed and built by Joey “The Dirt” Christensen, the track features big lanes as wide as 20′ with European-influencing sweeping turns and American-styled jumps. Lap times dropped throughout Saturday’s qualifiers as the traction improved and drivers began to master the unique layout. Josh Glancy would TQ both nitro buggy and truggy, while Jake Dellinger and Andrew Clark took TQ honors in E-buggy and Pro4, respectively. Glancy made the fastest circuit of the day, lapping the track in 44.6 seconds.

The BRCA Truggy and Electric 1/8th national series descended on a new dirt track for the series which was the NRC track near Bromsgrove, Birmingham. The track looked in tip top condition when the pilots arrived. Due the temperature at 7 o’clock they even had the sprinklers on. The lay out comprised of some nice well thought technical sections. Normal situation started at 9 o’clock with the Electric buggies starting of the meeting for the first of their three qualifying runs. It was evident from the first runs that it would not be a walk in the park. The weather was going to be a challenge for all drivers and cars as well as the track. The track started off quite loose but the wider Truggy tyres helped to push the lose dirt to sides which made the racing line starting to blue groove.

Reinder Wilms wins Benelux+ Pro10 Stock class

The 2013 Benelux+ Race took place at the high speed track of the Baanbrekers club in Rucpen, Netherlands. The track was well prepared and the organisers put in a lot of effort to make it a great event. The meeting was run in four classes including Pro10 Stock and Modified as well as Touring car Stock 10.5T and Modified. The hot weather made chassis set-up and cooling crucial especially in the Pro10 classes and in Pro10 Stock is was Reinder Wilms (RC Devil PC10H3X) who took TQ with Alexander Fokke (Team Associated  RC10L2.5) and Joost Kuiper (P235 SE) in tow. Joost had to sort out radio problems during the qualifiers but thankfully other drivers were able to help out with a borrowed transmitter and receiver. After the three finals Reinder Wilms was able to secure the overall win with Alexander Fokke in second and Joost Kuiper in third place.

Thanks to Alexander Fokke for sending the report.
