Willetts & Embling win BRCA E8 & Truggy Nats Rd3

Willetts & Embling win BRCA E8 & Truggy Nats Rd3

Last weekend 64 drivers descended on the sunny Dirt track in the Midlands and Coventry Model Car club. Upon arriving at the track it was immediately visible that the club members had been hard at work to present the track in the best possible shape after 3/4 days of rain and a full calendar of racing on the track the previous weekend for charity. As the car park started to fill it was nice to see a nice mix of top national drivers and club racers. The E8 buggy started the meeting off. The qualifying was to be 3 rounds with the best 2 to count with the first round having a 4 min warm up bolted on. At the end of the first qualifying run Elliott Boots set the pace with him being the only person to complete 9 laps. At the end of the second qualifying run Simon Willetts had joined Elliott in the 9 lap club. This was then extended to Jack Embling joining them at the end of qualifying 3.

John Ermen wins Dutch on-road nationals Rd3

Last weekend the 3rd round of the Dutch nationals was held on the fast Baanbrakers track in Rucphen. Although the weather forecast predicted showers the contenders finally had warm and sunny weather. In the first round of the NK class it was Gunther v. Staey setting the pace with a 24 lap run and a 7 second gap on local hero John Ermen. He also scored a blistering 12.3s as fastest laptime. Gunther decided to spare his equipment by not driving the other 2 qualification rounds. At the end the four fastest drivers were the only ones with a 24 lap qualification. The fastest was Robing d’Hondt followed by Gunther v. Steay, Sefan Cuypers and John Ermen.

Surface Tension

Surface Tension

So, after much discussion, debate and deadline extensions, the 2014 Electric On-Road World Championships was awarded to the USA, and the Full Throttle Speedway in Florida. Personally, I think it is right that ROAR should hold this event – yes, the on-road element in the States isn’t anywhere near as strong as off-road at present, but we often see the ebb and flow of popularity between classes. It’s also a great advertisement to get more people into the on-road classes and, let’s not forget, the event is for the 1/12th class as well as the Touring Car Class. The US is home to many of the smaller 1/12th-producing companies – an excellent opportunity for them to attend that section of the event and again promote their product.

Martin Bayer doubles at Astra Nitro Cross

Martin Bayer doubles at Astra Nitro Cross

The Astra Nitro Cross 2013 was held last weekend at Auto Bayer arena in Slavkov u Brna and Martin Bayer gives a short rundown on how the meeting went. The event is the largest in the Czech Republic with many drivers from Europe attending the annual event. The track again was pretty challenging with banked turns, technical corners and difficult jumps. Rain on Friday meant the race started a little later than planned and practice was limited to rounds with a following qualification round. The first practice round was run on a wet track but that later on dried up. Xray’s Martin Bayer was able to TQ both openings rounds of the nitro buggy and electric buggy class. On Saturday four more rounds of qualification were run and again both classed been dominated by Martin. Five minutes before the third run a heavy rain interrupted the racing making it necessary to cancel the round.

Xray Challenge Roma – Report

Xray Challenge Roma – Report

The Xray Challenge Roma was held at the T5 track in Rome, Italy. Practice on the small and technical track started on Friday with many drivers trying to get a feel and setup for the flat high grip surface. Unfortunately for the organisers and the racers, most of the Saturday was washed away by the ever present rain in Europe these Spring. However the drivers were able to get at least two hours of practice on the Saturday afternoon. This was followed by one of the highlights of the event, the Xray dinner party, held at the track that same night. It was a memorable evening with great food, atmosphere, and even a couple of surprises. The lucky draw was a much appreciated moment as well – with delighted winners.

Martin Soerlie wins at Norwegian Cup Series Rd3

Martin Soerlie wins at Norwegian Cup Series Rd3

The third round of the Norwegian Cup off-road series took place on the Innherred RC’s track in Levanger, Norway. The full astroturf track had a very similar layout to earlier years, only one turn has been altered just a bit, so all drivers needed little time getting familiar with the rhythm. After the qualification rounds Joakim Nicolaisen (Associated) took TQ in the 2WD class followed by 2011 Norwegian Champion, Martin Soerlie (TLR) who wasted a very good TQ run on the last corner in the last heat and had to settle for second, meanwhile local hero Roy Gjemble lined up in third position.

Numendahl double at JBRL Rd3

Numendahl double at JBRL Rd3

In this tenth year of running, the Jimmy Babcock Racing League continues to draw huge crowds for the one-day events. With over 260 entries invading the Pegasus Hobbies facility, there was sure to be enough action for everyone. With the first race going off at 8:30am and the last race finishing after 11:30pm, there was non-stop action around the outdoor, clay track. Team Associated descended upon the event to both support the series regulars and to compete for race wins. In the most popular class, 2WD Modified, Team Associated/Reedy/LRP’s Kody Numedahl and his JConcepts equipped B4.2 Factory Team were the star of the show. Setting the early TQ and walking away from the field in the main, Kody led a 10-car field to victory.
