Manuel Huber wins 2012 European 200mm title

The EFRA 1/10th 200mm European Championships were held this week in Cassino, Italy with 101 driver attending the annual event. Under extreme temperatures it would Serpent driver Alessio Mazzeo that claimed the TQ position ahead of double European Champion Dario Baelstri in 2nd, while Jilles Groskamp was 3rd and David Loppini in 4th. Reigning European Champion Robert Pietsch along with last year’s finalist Eric Dankel failed to progress out of the 1/4 finals. Following the Semi finals, it was newly crowned touring car World Champion Jilles Groskamp that would start the final from pole position, while a problem for Dario Balestri, while leading his semi, meant his title quest was ended. In the final itself Jilles would have a bad start which gave D’angelo the lead but he would get by and was able to build a solid lead until a rear belt problem dropped him down the order. A recovery drive would see him pull back 3 laps on the leaders, setting the fastest lap of the race to finish in 3rd place. Austrian Xray driver Manuel Huber would take over the lead following Jilles’ problem for the remainder of the race only conceding the top spot to Dino Giacone following his final fuel stop only for the Italian to break his car a lap later in traffic giving Huber back the lead allowing him to cruise to the title. Mario Spiniello would take the runner up spot less than a lap back from the winner, having worked his way up from the 1/8th finals earlier in the day.

Ryan Cavalieri triple at ROAR Super Nationals

For the 2012 installment of the ROAR Electric Off Road Nationals, the decision was made to create a “Super Nationals” combining 2WD Buggy, 4WD Buggy and Racing Truck all in to one four-day event. Then with a day off between, the second half of the event concludes with 2WD Short Course, 4WD Short Course and 1:8 eBuggy. We are now currently halfway through the event and Team Associated has already secured five National Championships. The standout performance of the first half of the event was from Ryan Cavalieri and his Pro-Line shod Team Associated vehicles. Cavalieri TQ’d 2WD, 4WD, and Truck Modified with his Factory Team B4.1 Worlds Edition, Factory Team B44.1, and Factory Team T4.1. In dominant fashion, Cavalieri took the win in all three classes by winning the first two of the triple A Mains to complete the event sweep. This is the second time that RC has completed the sweep of the ROAR Nationals, with the first time coming in 2007 at ARCOR Raceway in Albuquerque, NM. Joining Cavalieri with TQ’s and wins for Team Associated were Nolan Anderson in Truck Stock and Zack Genova in 4WD Stock.

Finland SC Summer Cup Rd4 report

The fourth and final round of Finland SC Summer Cup took us to Jyväskylä. The race was driven on same weekend as Neste Rally Finland. Unfortunately the RC track was too far away from WRC happenings and so we only saw lots of general traffic the way to and from track. Weather wasn’t as good in morning as it had been in previous rounds, there was constant threat of thunder storm ahead, but fortunately rain and thunder went around us and we only got very short and light shower during qualifying. Unlike in two previous rounds we had more drivers in 2wd (17) than in 4wd (16). Once again we had few drivers that had never been in an RC race.

Due a bad position in the ranking by Robin d’Hondt he was the one setting a very good pace in the very first heat between the slower drivers. Finally after 3 qualifiers he was able to take the 2nd direct starting place in the final. In front of him it was Rick Vrielijnck taking the pole with a 6 second gap and the 3rd and 4th spot went to Gunther v. Staey and John Ermen.
