Nick Joosens takes Belgian Nats Rd5 win

For the 5th round of the Belgian Electric Touring Championship they visited the track of the Baanbrekers in Rucphen in the south of Holland. The forecast for the weekend wasn’t looking that good with rain predicted for Saturday and a little better on Sunday. As everyone arrived on the Sunday morning, they were surprised to see sunshine and an almost dry track. In the Efra class qualification it was Nick Joosens who took TQ in front of Olivier Bultynck and Thomas Stockman. It was very close and those three guys running very similar lap times. All the drivers had a good start in the first final. Nick took the lead followed by Olivier and Thomas. For fourth place there was a battle between Geoffrey Vekemans, Rico Claeys, Nick Logie, Patrick Jongenelis and Nicolas Delise. After almost three minutes Ollie’s car had no more traction. The rear right driveshaft was broken. Nick cruised to the win and Thomas took second place with Patrick Jongenelis in third place.

Kyle Branson wins Rd5 of British 1/8th Nats

The fifth round of the 2012 national championship was a second visit to the Adur club, situated at Shoreham recreation ground to the west of Brighton. The original round 5 fixture was scheduled for the Halifax track but due to adverse weather conditions, the track was 1m under water due a local river bursting its banks for the second time within the last 4 years. Therefore with the previous round rescheduled for later on in the season, this race became the 5th meeting. With this race track being the smallest of all in the UK, it was a surprise to see 40 + drivers in attendance based upon previous meetings at this track. The Track is very technical with good rotation and turn in, the main criteria to produce quick and consistent lap times.

Cardoso & Miguel win Portuguese Cup

The Annual Portuguese Cup took place at the track of Maiorca last weekend, close to the city beach of Figueira da Foz in nice warm and sunny weather. The track has a very fast but non forgiving layout, you must always be focused and never lose speed. The stock class was a one man show, with Fernando Cardoso driving his Nosram powered Schumacher TQ’ing and winning the event with awesome driving and performance. In the modified class it was a totally different story. There were many good runs from all the drivers and in the last main 3 drivers still had the chance to take the overall race win. João Miguel Martinho with his Yokomo/LRP took a fine win, the result of error free driving.

Lamberto Collari wins Rd2 of Italian 1/8th series

Round 2 of the Italian 1/8th scale on road National Championships were held in Bologna recently where the temperature touched 40 degrees with the track close to 67 degrees. The temperatures were prohibitive for both engines and the cars themselves but it was a useful test ahead of the European Championships which are held this year in Portugal, where temperatures will be even higher. Pole position went to Andrea Pirani followed closely by Lamberto Collari in 2nd with Dario Balestri and Carmine Raiola completing the top 4 direct finalists. The final started with Pirani in the lead followed by Collari but after about 8 minutes Collari was already in the lead with about an 8 seconds advantage ahead of Raiola. The 9 times World champion was steady in his performance and after about 20 minutes had a 2 laps lead. During the final mechanical and engine problems, due to hot weather, plagued other competitors but not Collari with his Novarossi powered Capricorn and at the end of 45 minutes won by 3 laps ahead of Alberto Tedeschi in 2nd with Walter Salemi completing the podium in 3rd.
