Lee Martin retains 2wd buggy European title

Lee Martin has retained his EFRA European 1/10th 2wd buggy title in Fehring in the south of Austria. Raced on what is normally a 1/8th scale track, and who will host next months 1/8th EFRA European Championships, Lee took his Speed Passion powered Tamiya chassis to the top qualifier spot ahead of recently crowned Swedish National Champion David Ronnefalk (Kyosho) with multiple European Champion Hupo Honigl (Durango) third. The first A-main was one by Lee ahead of fellow Brit Neil Cragg (Associated) with Hupo taking the 3rd spot. Leg two of the mains would see Lee make a mistake allowing the young Swede Ronnefalk to take a very close win in front of Worlds podium finisher Joern Neumann (Durango) in 2nd with Lee Martin recovering to 3rd setting up a title showdown for the 3rd and final A-main leg. Lee Martin would keep his calm in this decisive main and claim the win and overall title ahead of Ronnefalk in 2nd, who claimed the overall runner up spot and junior title, while Neil Cragg would finish 3rd claiming the final overall podium spot. Now the racers change their focus to the 4wd class with practice today followed by qualifying on Friday and Saturday morning with the finals being held on Saturday afternoon.

JConcepts Summer Tour race 2 report

The JConcepts Summer Tour had its second stop this past weekend. The race was hosted by eXtreme Hobby Zone in Winter Haven, FL.  The small outdoor track made for some tight racing and the Black Grooved center meant you had to stay in the line or risk ending up sideways. There was plenty of shade for the pits but an extremely bright sunny day kept the 83 entries nice and toasty. Two rounds of qualifying kicked off just before 10am and with a smoothly run program the final main finished just before 5pm.

Double victory & title for Coelho in Portugal Rd4

Last weekend saw the 4th round of the Portuguese gas on road nationals at the Vila Real circuit where this year’s 1/8th scale European Championships will be held at the start of next month. The race saw Mugen Novarossi driver Bruno Coelho TQ and win both the 1/8th and 1/10th scale 200mm classes as well as retain both his national titles. The track was very abrasive and the tires could only last ten minutes, so Bruno had to drive very carefully and conserve tires in a race of tactics rather than out and out performance. The 1/8th scale main saw Coelho take the win by 2 laps ahead of Jose Pequito in 2nd and Jose Carlos in 3rd. In the 1/10th scale class the margin of victory for Bruno was 4 laps ahead of Mário Miranda in 2nd and Hugo Mendes in 3rd.
