Drake double at Airtronics Winter Nationals

Revelations Raceway in Ontario, California hosted the Airtronics Winter Nationals this past Saturday. The event had 206 entries which included top drivers Drake, King, Kortz, Bradley, JQ, Degani, Moller and Schreffler.  Revelation is a medium grip circuit with a combination of technical jump sections and fast flowing sections which provided great racing action. TLR / Novarossi / Proline driver Adam Drake took the top qualifier honors in both rounds of the 1/8th buggy and 1/8th truck.  The buggy final was 30 minutes and went late into the night.  The track conditions changed a lot for the finals as the track was very dry and low grip.  At the start of the final Jeremy Kortz moved past Drake on the first lap, but Drake quickly made his way back around Kortz on lap two and never looked back.  Drake won the buggy final by 29 seconds, Cody King finished second and Matt Schreffler took home the final podium spot in third with his TLR 8ight 2.0. In the truck final Drake lead from start to finish and took the win followed by TLR teammates Drew Moller in second and Cody Smith in third.

Andy Moore wins BRCA Winter National

The BRCA held it Winter National at the popular Ardent indoor raceway near Derby at the weekend. This was the second year that Ardent had hosted the event, the format was three rounds of qualifying with the top 32 drivers going through to a Reedy style race of champions. The remaining drivers contested a more familiar UK national format with round by round qualifying and three leg final. In qualifying Olly Jefferies for Associated repeated his TQ performance from the 2012 Winter National, in 2012 Jefferies  finished second to Andy Moore and early on it looked like the battle for top honours would once again centre on these two drivers.

Joern Neumann takes Reedy ROC Invitational title

The Reedy International Race of Champions which was held last weekend at WCRC in California came to an exciting conclusion with the top 3, Ryan Cavalieri, Jorn Neumann and Ryan Maifield, going into the final race all in the same final to determine the champion. Maifield and Neumann started on the front of the grid while Cavalieri had to start from the back. At the sound of the tone Maifield and Neumann shot to the front and had a fierce battle the entire race. Maifield was in the lead until he made a small mistake allowing Neumann to go by. Cavalieri pushed as hard as he could and passed 2 cars on the last corner of the race to finish 3rd.  The win by Neumann gave him the overall by 1 point over Ryan Cavalieri, who fought hard to the very end, with Maifield taking the final podium spot. Joern’s victory is the first for a European racer in this prestigious event and sees the Durango driver continue his top form with wins at all races this year.

Francesco Tironi wins 200mm Pre Worlds

The Pre Worlds for 1/10th 200mm took place this weekend at RC Addict in Bangkok Thailand, where the IFMAR Worlds will be held next November. The weather was hot and rain disrupted the action during the event, but in the end it was the TQ master Robert Pietsch, reigning 1/8th World Champion, that took the top spot in qualifying ahead of Italian Francesco Tironi with Paphon C and Chavit S completing the top 4. In the semis Jilles Groskamp went out with radio problems so while he had pace he wasn’t given the chance to show it. In the final Pietsch got a clean start but technical problems hit the Mugen driver and he was out of contention, elevating Tironi to the lead where he would stay to take the win for Capricorn ahead of Xray driver Dirk Wischnewski in 2nd, some 7 seconds back, while Paphon C completed the podium 2 laps further back also with an Xray.
