One of the most competitive RC car clubs located in Fort Lauderdale, FL called Mills Pond kicked off their 1st race of the year last Saturday. Race director Bart Collins & the rest of his crew laid down a fresh layout for the New Year in order to get ready for this race. With an amazing 100+ entry, Mills Pond New Year shootout was definitely the race to watch for the weekend.

Horizon Hobby have announced the TLR22 Cup Italia, a 4 date trophy series for all 1/10th 2wd electric off road buggies. It will take place in the north of Italy between January and April, with the opener in Mondovi on the 22nd of January. For the final round they are also thinking to open it out to SC trucks. This past weekend we had the 5th round of the Florida State Series at the famous Worlds track in Homestead Florida and Kosmic Fuel was in the house full force. In Qualifying is was DJ Apolaro taking the TQ in Sedan and having 9 of the 10 cars in the final. In 1/8 scale is was Kenny Ives qualifying 3rd with 5 of the 10 car field running Kosmic. First up was Sedan and some close racing was expected. With DJ Apolaro getting a good start he was able to pull way and never look back. A close race for 2nd, 3rd and 4th would take place with Gianni, Eduardo and Rino ending up on the same lap, just 2 laps behind DJ. Giving Kosmic the Win and taking all the podium spots. In 1/8 scale there was a lot of action early in the race and by the half way point is was all about just trying to finish. Sean Laue would take the early lead just to have his race ended. In the end it was Gianni Giorgio taking the win, with Jamie Gonzalez in second and Kenny Ives taking 3rd. Giving Kosmic the Win and 3rd place.
New Tekno RC driver Lucas Sanford took the win this weekend in the 1/8th Electric Buggy class to kick off Round 1 of the Snowman Series hosted by ARC Raceway in Temecula, CA. The weather was nice during the day, but turned bitter cold as the night went on. A few adjustments had to be made to the car to make sure it would perform correctly in the cold and at the sound of the tone, it was all Lucas. The car was hooked up and locked in and after the first lap no one would catch him. In 2nd place was Tekno RC driver Matt Wolter also running one of the new Tekno RC chassis. At the halfway point, Tekno RC driver Ryan Hughes, also driving a new Tekno RC chassis, was in 3rd when a battery issue sidelined him. In all it was a great night of racing. We’ll bring bigger jackets and gloves for the next round.

Last weekend Odense RC Minirace hosted the 12th edition of DHI CUP and the big news for this years event was the off-road race run alongside the Touring Car event, a first. In the Modified class it was a battle between, Marc Rheinard, Ronald Völker and Alexander Hagberg for the Pole Position, a battle between the two Germans helped Hagberg clinch the pole position. The A-finals were very tight and in the first Rheinard managed to overtake Hagberg close to the end the run, Hagberg tried to come back and touched Rheinard’s car making him lose position and allowing Hagberg to win the 1st leg. Völker put in a steady run in the 2nd and 3rd final and with Rheinard and Hagberg also coming together in both these legs, with the Swede coming of worse each time, the Yokomo/LRP driver could cruise by to take the overall win.

The final round of the 2012 IFMAR WC 1/10 GP Selection series took place last weekend at the ACO Racing Track in Hong Kong. KM Racing team driver Hang TQ’d the three qualifiers by one lap over the second driver Poon who was driving the Xray. Hang was the only driver who could make 30 laps in the qualifiers. In the 30 minute final, Hang led from start to finish, heading second placed driver Chan with his NT1 by 4 laps, breaking his own track record with the best lap of the day. Hang was using the newest H-K1 side battery version & the waist twister system and the handling was great. With this results Hang became 2011 Hong Kong Champion and won the first spot of the two available to attend the 2012 IFMAR World Championship in Thailand.

ARC Raceway kicked off its 2012 race season this past weekend with round one of the Snowman Series. Consisting of four rounds, round one had 12 heats. TLR, Novarossi, Pro-Line driver Adam Drake TQ’d both rounds of qualifying in the 1/8th Pro Buggy class in front of teammate’s Drew Moller and Matt Schreffler. In the 1/8th Pro Truck class Ronda Drake TQ’d round one with her new TLR 8ight T 2.0. Drew Moller TQ’d round two and would be the overall TQ for the truck class. In the 30 minute buggy final Adam Drake ran flawless and took the victory by more than two laps over Carson Wernimont in second and Colin Herzig in third. Drew Moller won the 20 minute truck final followed by teammate Andy Carillo in 2nd and Ronda Drake in 4th after a rough start.
Kyosho France were in touch to inform us of the 14th running of the Kyosho Masters. The race will take place at Sucy en Brie in France from the 15th to the 17th of June this year.
