Atsushi Hara dominates Super Stock at IIC

Atsushi Hara dominates Super Stock at IIC

The 2011 International Indoor Championships was once again held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino on the world-famous Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada. With over 60 entries, one of the largest classes at this year’s event was the Super Stock TC class. Utilizing 17.5 motors and boosted ESCs, the class featured some of the world’s top drivers turning laps nearly as fast as those in the Modified TC class. Reedy factory driver Atsushi Hara was clearly the man to beat. The defending champion was extremely fast in practice and continued to show no mercy in the qualifying heats. After four rounds of qualifying, Hara’s fastest time was nearly 4 seconds faster than the next best driver which meant he would start the A Main from the coveted pole position. At the sound of the start tone, Hara shot into the lead thanks to the power of a Reedy Sonic 17.5 motor and 5000mAh LiPo battery. An early challenge from Reedy teammate Keven Hébert was the only threat to his dominance. But eventually Hara managed to build a comfortable gap to the chasers and cruise to victory.

Joe Kerry takes British title with last round victory

Joe Kerry takes British title with last round victory

The last BRCA 1/10th 200mm national race of the championship was at the Mendip circuit last weekend with the title still up for grabs. Saturday’s practice was run under dry and sunny conditions with championship contenders Joe Kerry and Adam Catchpole looking quick all day. Sunday morning turned out to be very windy, cold and damp. This made qualifying quite difficult for some of the top drivers but the track eventually dried out for the final qualifier and everyone was able to set a decent time. Alex Thurston took FTD just in front of Joe Kerry with Adam Catchpole qualifying in 6th position. In the final Joe took the lead on the very first lap and began to race away from the rest of the field. At the end of the 30 minute final Joe was the winner after holding off the challenge of Mark Green towards the end of the race. This final result makes Joe Kerry the 2011 British 200mm National Champion. Adam Catchpole finished runner up overall with Alex Thurston taking third overall.

Thanks to Joe Kerry for the report.

Qualifying was taken from only 1 qualifying round due to the weather conditions, rain started to pour down in late afternoon. Serpent racer Chili Lim was out of luck in his heat, despite being one of the fastest on the track, his only run being ruined by by a loose ball joint causing him to retire after the 3rd lap meaning he would end up 2nd from last. The event ran a Christmas tree format so Chili will need to bumps up from the lowest final and after racing for 105 minutes Chili manage to book himself a place in the final in 2nd position. In the 1 hour main final Chili managed to gain the lead in the early stages and after that started slowly pulling away from the rest of the pack. Henriksen wins Danish 1/8th Nationals

Henriksen wins Danish 1/8th Nationals

The last round of the Danish 1/8th scale nationals was run at ODRC club in Odense. The track is small and has no space for error’s so it’s technically challenging to drive 1/8 on this track and it’s normally very slippery too. There was some rain overnight and it actually cleaned the track so the grip was better on Sunday. After 5 rounds Shepherd driver Henrik Christensen was leading with only 2 points, and the Danish point system also gives points for TQ, so when fellow Shepherd-Novarossi racer Jon Pedersen took the TQ on Saturday there was only one point between 1st and 2nd place. He took the pole-position in front of Henrik Christensen and Mikael Skals in third position.
