Yannick Aigoin takes Rd2 of French Nationals

Round 2 of the French 1/8th scale buggy nationals took place in Reims in the north of the country and it was bright sunny weather that greeted the competitors, a change from the wet conditions that forced the finals in round 1 to be cancelled. With a lot of French racers competing at this weekend’s Neo 11 race, Rd1 winner Jerome Aigoin being one of those, only a handful of the top drivers were present, hoping to get some all important points. Qualifying went the way of Losi driver Yannick Aigoin ahead of Durango team driver Renaud Savoya who came over from Dallas for the event. Jerome Couchon, Sebastian Wartelle and Tony Robin completed the top 5. With no major problems in the semis, the top two placed on the grid for the main final remained the same. In the final Savoya hit problems early one with a suspected locked wheel, which dropped him out of contention. Yannick cruised up front and took the victory by nearly 2 laps ahead of Romain Valter driving a Mugen with Kyosho driver Tony Robin in 3rd, 8 seconds further back.

Körmendi Gábor & Eugenio Carlevaro win Rd1 in Hungary

The first round of Hungarian Championship took place last weekend in Pécs in the south of Hungary. The 30 minutes 1:8 scale final was dominated by Velox V8 driver Körmendi Gábor. Starting from TQ spot he managed to extend his lead to one lap gap in front of Serpent driver Tibor Bognár after 9 minutes. But during the 2nd fuel stop his engine stopped and he dropped back to 3rd place. After he rejoined the race he fought back to the top within 5 minutes and nobody could stop him to win the race. Jason Ruona takes Pro 4 at JConcepts Indoor Nats Rd2

Round 2 of the JConcepts Indoor National Series kicked off at OCRC raceway in Huntington Beach, CA. The renowned indoor facility was topped off with a fresh new layout and grippy surface for this special event. Race director Nick Black kept the program running smooth all weekend while running 3 rounds of qualifying on Saturday and main events on Sunday. JConcepts driver Jason Ruona held the coveted pole position in Pro 4 having paced the 6 minute qualifiers with ease but with a 10 minute A-main, the racing was hotly contended throughout. The Pro 4 main started off as Jason Ruona grabbed a clean start and held a slight lead over Chris Jarosz in 2nd. A mistake by Jarosz moved Colby Poh into second where he pressured Ruona until a mistake dropped Poh several seconds back. Ruona increased the lead and looked more comfortable each lap as his SC10 4×4 truck continued to look looked smooth and consistent. With only several laps to go, Jarosz moved back into 2nd place dropping Colby to 3rd while Ruona stayed out front and just cruised. Leading wire to wire, Ruona was never challenged and took a well deserved win with his brand new SC10 4×4. Chris Jarosz finished in 2nd and Colby Poh in 3rd.  Jason chose JConcepts Short Course Double Dees (front) and Bar Codes (rear) tires in gold compound along with Rulux 12mm hex wheels, topped off with the Ford Raptor body.

Hupo Honigl dominates 2wd at Austrian opener

The first round of the Austrian 1/10th off road nationals was held last weekend in Simmering, Vienna home to the 2003 European Championships. Hupo took his DEX210 Prototype to a comprehensive victory. Hupo took all four qualifiers to secure overall TQ and set about the finals in the same manner, taking both opening legs of the A-Main to take the win. Hupo took 3 out of the 4 qualifiers in the 4WD class with his DEX410 for the TQ position and #1 for the finals.  An amazing series of finals which saw battles with fellow Team Durango star Martin Kriel for the lead. Hupo needed to take the last leg of the A final to take the win and lead by 4-5 seconds until close to the end when a bearing failure cost him the win. Team Durango DEX410s finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Pedro Rombouts wins Rd1 of Dutch 1/10th Nats

This season’s Dutch 1/10th scale nationals kicked of at the noise-troubled MACH track, close to Amsterdam. Although the MACH is no longer able to host the EC-B because of noise restrictions, the national was able to be run due to the lower number of attendees and the Kyosho KWC class, which joins the nationals this year, making less noise. Saturday’s training was influenced by sound measuring to get the national drivers below a certain noise level.

JConcepts Spring Indoor Nationals report

JConcepts Spring Indoor Nationals report

The second stop of the JConcepts Indoor National Tour descended upon the popular OC/RC Raceway in beautiful Huntington Beach, CA, and many of the top So Cal pros were in attendance vying for the title of Spring Indoor Champion. Team Associated/Reedy/LRP was in full support, as was title sponsor JConcepts with most racers competing on Gold Barcodes. The fluid layout challenged racers to maintain a sharp focus as lap times dipped in to the 16-second range with speeds reaching 30+ mph on the straightaway. Combined with the high-grip and low-dust surface, some racers chose to compete on full slick tires while others used a combination of used tires that resembled slicks.
