Kyosho hosted their annual Kyosho Masters event in Japan two weeks ago. In the Invitational class it was former World Champion Yuichi Kanai that took the victory ahead of current Japanese National Champion Kazuya Tanaka in 2nd with newly crowned World Champion Cody King taking 3rd spot. Embedded above and below are videos from that main final.
The KBRL nitro circuit made the latest stop at the world famous Nitro Pit. TLR drivers Billy Fischer, Casey Peck, and Chris Wheeler were on hand to take on AZ’s finest nitro racers. Billy Fischer proved he was the guy to beat and TQ’d both rounds of expert buggy, earning him the first position on the grid with his 2.0 buggy. At the sound of the tone for the 20 minute A main Billy was able to take control, but had Peck within striking distance. After the first pit stop Casey took the lead and the battle ensued. After swapping the lead numerous times, Billy went on a hot streak. He strung a bunch of fast laps together and Casey did not have a snow ball’s chance, as Fischer took the convincing win. Peck brought his 2.0 buggy home in the second spot. After a tough start, Wheeler was able to fight his way back to third and rounded out the Losi podium.

The 3rd and final round of the Malaysia National Championship (MNC) was held under sunny conditions and the fight for the championship was between Mr. Norazam and Mr. Azri, with only three points separating them, with Azri with the advantage. The race saw many drivers converging from all over Malaysia, special mention for Mr. Eric Ma and his friends from Penang, Mr. Lawson and James Ki from Batu Pahat and other places from all over Malaysia, with 35 drivers competing in the Pro Stock 10.5/11.5T alone.

Round 2 of the Team Durango Winter Series took place on Sunday 28th November and despite the bitterly cold temperatures, 110 drivers attended the event. The track for this round of the series featured much less high grip carpet than round 1. The carpet of the touring car track had been rolled away leaving the wooden boarding as the racing surface for the majority of the track. This surface gave a medium level of grip, allowing the cars to slide around a little. Other surfaces were used, there was a carpet section at the start of the straight and the huge table top jump in front of the rostrum was also carpeted. There was a slippy surfaced hairpin on the corner before the wall ride. The table top was a new feature this time and saw the cars getting some big air time. As well as this feature there were four smaller jumps around the track.

This past weekend was the 15th Annual Pizza Feast race held at MHOR R/C Raceway in Denver, Colorado. This race is a special event that is specific to short course. In order to qualify for the win, you must run stock and modified short course and the scores from each class are combined. Everything went well from the start as Kody TQ’d both classes which gave him a jump on the field to start the main events. Stock was up first and a small bobble on lap one dropped Kody back to 5th but with some patients he got back to the lead before it was over. Modified went a little smoother having learned a bit from the stock main. Kody led all of the laps and took the win in modified and the overall win at the race.

RC-Carpet Fun and Fun Cup Austria got together to hold the first ever Short Course Race in Austria last weekend. The venue was the new indoor off road track at RC-Carpet Fun situated in an old warehouse near Vienna. Racing was held to the usual single racing day Fun Cup rules, only one heat to sort drivers into the finals and after a short break to get some good food and nice drinks at the buffet, three finals for all. The tight track saw lap times between 26 and 29 seconds apart from one driver, Hupo Honigl who was joining the race and dominated all three finals driving a Traxxas Slash 2WD/Protoform SC Truck. His best lap time was 22.99 and therefore considerably quicker than second placed Peter Wirthners best lap of 25,88 driving an Associated SC10. Third place overall went to Georg Sandhofer with his Losi Strike. After the race Hupo revealed his ‘secret’ that he was using Protoform tires similar to Schumacher Minipins, the best tire to use for carpet racing at the RC-Carpet fun track. With the new 22 winning on its race debut in the hands of Dustin Evans ahead of some very tough competition, Horizon Hobby were on hand to video all the action from the 3 2wd A-mains so we can all witness history in the making.
This year’s Toys for Tots event was moved back to its original location in Palm Desert, CA. The track has gone through an amazing transformation since its last race a few years ago. Over one hundred and twenty of the fastest racers in California came out to race and help raise money for a great charity including TLR / Novarossi driver Adam Drake. The weather and track conditions were great. In the past the track was loose top soil, but this year it was hard packed and high grip. The track crew built a great track that was fun for all classes from SCT’s to 1/8th buggies and trucks.
