The final battle for points of the 1/10 scale nitro on-road Western German Championship at Oberhausen saw Sebastian Buerge winning for the first time this season. But even with a victory the 2009 champion couldn’t avoid that Tobias Hepp, finishing third behind Andreas Weyhoven, captured the 2010 title and the prestigious starting number “1” for the 2011 season. In the Kyosho World Cup (KWC) group West local hero Werner Vogel earned his second win and the title in the GP-Race class while Holger Wittek took the title in GP-Sport.

Three is a magic number and today Renaud ‘The Shark’ Savoya entered the sport’s history books as he notched up his third consecutive EFRA 1:8 Off Road European Championship. The 30th running of these championships, the French ace won here in Portugal from Robert Batlle, the man whom he took the title from back in 2008. Having struggled by his standards in qualifying, ending up only fourth, Savoya bounced back on the day it counted most.

Renaud Savoya has won the second Semi final of the 2010 Euros despite his car flaming out on the last lap. The defending Champion was on target for a 29 lap run but his RB powered Mugen came to a stop a third of the way around the final lap. A marshal got the car but then ran across the loop giving him a faster run than Batlle but the time keepers removed the rapid 36 second lap and he will now start second in the final.

Yannick Aigoin is the Top Qualifier here in Portugal and going on the form of the previous four European Championships, is on target to lift his third EFRA title. Since 2006, when Aigoin last won the Euros, the Top Qualifier has gone on to take the overall victory. The factory Losi driver secured the No.1 spot after recording his third TQ run of the five rounds in the last qualifier of the event, much to the delight of Losi top man Bill Jeric who has traveled over from the US to support his drivers.

The 3rd round of the Danish National was held on the last weekend of June and great weather greeted the competitors in Næstved on Zealand. After qualification it was Martin Lissau on pole followed by Martin Hansen 2nd and Claus Ryeskov in 3rd. The start of the finals saw Lissau, Hansen and Ryeskov maintain their starting order. Before the first fuel stop Hansen has overtaken Lissau after he went too wide into the corner after the straight. Just before the second refueling the leader ran out of fuel and it cost him two laps. Lissau was again leading the race and maintained it for most of the race , but suddenly there was a big bang. Lissau had battery problems and had driven straight into a post, destroying the car and putting him out of the race. Hansen ran out of full several more times and this meant that Ryeskov could drive safely home and win the race with Martin Hansen holding on for 2nd and Thomas Larsen in 3rd.
Thanks to Claus Ryeskov for the report.
Former Champion Miguel Matias has TQ’d the penultimate round of qualifying here in Portugal this morning ahead of defending Champion Renaud Savoya, ending the Aigoin brothers domination at the top of the time sheets.
