Team Associated driver Lee Martin took victory in the 2wd class at the Petit R/C race, which was held at the Maritime raceway in the UK last weekend. After a tough first leg Lee took victory in legs two and three to secure an excellent victory from Tom Cockerill in 2nd and Ellis Stafford 3rd.

Florida State Series Rd2 report

The JConcepts FSORS rolled into its second round at the East Coast RC Club after a massive first race with over 190 entries. The weather was in the 70s during the day and cooled off at night, but there wasn’t a cloud in the sky so the track saw plenty of sun. The Daytona crew provided a difficult layout with an abrasive surface which quickly grooved as cars hit the track. Saturday’s qualifying first round had former World Champion Billy Easton taking the top spot with a decent but beatable run. As the day progressed the track got faster and faster and by the second round the track was primed for a new TQ. Local young gun JP Tirronen posted the quick time until the last heat where JConcepts new signing JR Mitch threw down. JR used Cross Hairs to put a in a blistering 13 lap run taking the over all TQ. JR completed the sweep of qualifying by TQ’ing both rounds of 1/8th truck on the new Half-Ups Cross Hairs.

Morganti takes FORGASS Rd5 win

The 5th round of the FORGASS Florida State series took place last weekend at the tricky Fort Myers track. In qualifying Serpent racer DJ Apolaro showed everyone the fast way around the track bumping his teammate Paolo Morganti from the top spot in the last round with a very fast 25 lap qualifier. The start of the A Final did not go well for the top qualifier, his engine flaming out as the cars were staging for the start meaning he had to start from the pit lane almost a full lap down. Paolo immediately took the lead and began to pull away from most of the field. Meanwhile DJ was on a mission and by the second round of fuel stops had worked himself into 2nd position where he stayed until 2 minutes remaining when he crashed heavily in the chicane, ending his race. This left Paolo unchallenged to the end, coming home ahead of Shepherd racer Scotty Gray in 2nd, while DJ managed to still take 3rd spot, such was his advantage at the time of the crash.

Rheinard & Bergfeldt DHI Cup Champions

He’s a two time World Champion, twice European Champion and now he is a two time champion of the race which kicks of each new season of international touring car action – the DHI Cup.  Holder of the title in 2006, the Tamiya Racing Factory driver took the win over Top Qualifier Alexander Hagberg with Teemu Leino completing the podium at the 9th edition of the famous Danish race. In Pro Stock it was Tommy Bergfeldt who was the very deserving 2009 DHI Cup Champion.  The Hot Bodies driver dominated qualifying to take the TQ honours from where he continued his reign, the only glitch of the perfect weekend being a problem which was outside of his control.  A motor problem messing up his Leg 2 race.

Hagberg converts it in DHI Leg 2

After a rocky opening Leg Alexander Hagberg converted his TQ into victory which will take the 2009 DHI Cup title down to the final Leg.  A far more relaxed Hagberg fended off an early challenge from Leg 1 winner Marc Rheinard but the German made a mistake giving the Swede the break he needed. Teemu Leino completed the Top 3.

Your first big international race TQ is always going to be something special but when you fend off the might of a double World Champion the occassion is even greater.  For Sweden’s Alexander Hagberg the DHI Cup marks such an achievement as he topped the final round of heats to secure the Top Qualifier’s spot on the grid from Marc Rheinard for tomorrow’s 9th edition of the famous Danish race.  Making it a Swedish double in qualifying, Tommy Bergfeldt claimed TQ honours in the Pro Stock division topping the time sheets with his Hot Bodies in 4 of the 5 qualifying rounds.
