2007 RC Pro East Series Rd3 - Report

We received a report from Gene Hickersen from the 3rd and final round of the 2007 RC Pro East Series, which was held last weekend in Savannah Georgia at Phil Hurd Raceway. It was a good turnout of about 140 entries as the best of the East battle for the title of RC Pro East Champion. The track was a good combination of fast sections and really slow sections with tons of small double jumps and 1 huge double jump in the middle. There was no place to make up any time on the layout, but many places where you could easily loose time; so the racing was very close as everyone had about the same lap times.

Petr Klatovský Win Czech Open Race

Petr Klatovský Win Czech Open Race

Xray have a report on their site from the Czech Open that was run recently at the RC Buggy Club Most. About 50 drivers were in attendance and most used it as a warmup race for the future round of the Czech Nationals that will be held at this track. In qualifying it was Kyosho racer Martin Vinš that claimed the top qualifer spot ahead of Xray racer Petr Klatovský in 2nd, he would go on to win his semi final and claim the pole position spot for the main final. In that final Petr could use his position well and kept out of trouble to lead off the grid until lap 4 when he made a mistake on the track allowing 2 cars to get ahead of him. However, in a short time he was able to catch them and pass them again and go on to increase his lead, eventually finishing 2 laps ahead Kyosho driver Jan Vostatek in 2nd and Martin Vinš in 3rd

International Indoor Championships – Results

 International Indoor Championships - Results

Last weekend saw the International Indoor Championships, or IIC as its better known, take place in Las Vegas with the event attracting the best EP drivers in the World. The race was open for 1/10th scale touring car and 1/12th scale with different classes for rubber and foam in the touring class as well as Modified, 19T and Stock in each scale, in total there were 8 classes. The blue ribboned events are the modified classes which attract the most factory drivers and in 1/12th Mod it was current European Champion Andy Moore, racing the new Cyclone 12, that dominated proceedings taking the pole position and in the final the win, coming home ahead of German driver Marc Rheinard in 2nd and top US driver Josh Cyrul in 3rd. In the TC Mod Rubber class it was Xray racer Paul LeMieux that claimed the TQ but in the final he was outpaced by former World Champion Marc Rheinard racing for Tamiya, Paul came home 2nd with another former World Champion Atsushi Hara, racing for Hot Bodies, in 3rd. The TC Mod Foam class saw the pole position go to Corally driver Chris Tosolini, but once more the pole man lucked out and it was Xray driver Teemu Leino that came through to take the win ahead of Tosolini in 2nd with another Xray, that of Paul LeMieux, in 3rd. Jon Hazlewood wins UK Truggy title

 Hazlewood wins UK Truggy title

Last weekend saw the final round of the UK Truggy Pro Nationals take place at Clanfield near Portsmouth in the south of Britain. With the title still up for grabs between Xray driver Jon Hazlewood and Hobao racer Graham Alsop, the competition was fierce and non more so than in qualifying with the main contenders battling for the pole position along with Kyosho racer Elliot Boots and in the end it was a strong drive by Alsop that gave him the top qualifying position. In the finals it was a clean get away for the top 3 with the lead changing many times between them but at the end of the race it was Hazlewood that took the win from Boots in 2nd and Alsop in 3rd. This result meant that the title contenders were tied on points, and even previous results, meaning that a 15 minute dual would decide the identity of this years National Champion. Hazlewood got off the start line best and was never headed and despite Alsop putting in some really quick laps he couldnt catch the Xray driver and the title was decided in favour of Hazlewood.

Mark Green wins Rd10 of UK 1/8th Nats

Mark Green wins Rd10 of UK 1/8th Nats

The 10th and penultimate round of the British 1/8th scale Nationals were held at the weekend at the fast Halifax track in the North of England. Qualifying saw Serpent driver, and round 9 winner, Mark Green claim a close TQ ahead of team mate Tim Wood only 1 second behind, with another Serpent racer Richard Hicklin in 3rd. The start of the final saw Green lead away with Wood following very close behind until a broken piston ended his chances and allowed Hicklin up into 2nd position where he stayed for the rest of the race. Jason Frost moved into a podium position which he held for 20 minutes until a blown plug dropped down the order. Several big collisions mid pack involving Andy North and James Connolly meant that Mugen racer Andy Hastings came home third to collect his best result for over a year behind Hicklin in 2nd and Mark Green in 1st. This result meant that Mark Green claimed the 2007 National title ahead of Andy North in 2nd with 3rd position still up for grabs in the 11th and final round in Brooklands.

Thanks to Andy North for the report and photo.

2007 IFMAR 1/8th scale Worlds – Preview

2007 IFMAR 1/8th scale Worlds - Preview

Argentina is the host country for the 2007 IFMAR 1/8th scale World Championships and as the elite of the RC World descend on the country’s 2nd city, Cordoba, we bring you our event preview.

This year’s event takes place on a recently completed track at the Complejo Ferial Cordoba, the same venue as used by the Argentinean round of World Rally Championships. Favourite for this years event has to be the 7-time World Champion Lamberto Collari of Italy, the Kyosho driver will be trying to further cement his legendary RC status with an 8th IFMAR World title. Lamberto was present at the warm-up race in March but despite a good qualifying he had radio problems in the final, which meant he retired after only 50 laps, a problem I’m sure that will be sorted in time for this year’s main event.
