Nougier wins Euro 40+, Beal 235mm

Eric Nougier wins Euro 40+ title

This weekend has seen the European 1/8th scale Championships for drivers aged 40 and over, run at the AMC Hildesheim track in Germany, alongside the European 1/10th 235mm Championship. In the 1/8th scale class qualifying it was French Kyosho driver Eric Nougier that took the pole position from Serpent driver Karl Heinz Meister in 2nd, while in the 235mm class it was Belgian racer Eric D’hondt that claimed the top qualifying spot ahead of current European title holder Alain Levy in 2nd. The 1/8th scale race saw an easy win for the French driver, after Meister claimed the lead after 10 minutes and then immediately went out with a rear belt failure allowing Nougier back in front and able to pull out a 2 lap cushion ahead of eventual 2nd placed finisher Christoph Pietsch with Austrian driver Peter Grandinger claiming 3rd spot at the end of the 45 minute race. In the 235mm final a problem for pole man D’hondt saw him sidelined after only 7 minutes which made it easier for Glyn Beal from the UK to work his way to the front where he eventually finished, despite the German racer Jens Stark in 2nd keeping him honest for the entire race, local driver Thomas Plöger rounded out the podium in 3rd.

At the start of the main final Graham Alsop and Simon Willets got away from the chasing group of Jamie Booth, John Hazelwood and round 4 winner Neil Cragg. After an unfortunate stop and go penalty for Simon Willets which took him out of the fight for the lead, Neil Cragg and Bloomfield were up front racing for the win. By the last fuel stop Darren had a 10 second lead from Neil who was pushing hard, but he couldnt catch him and thats how it ended, the battle for third was hard fought between Alsop and Booth both pushing like crazy but Graham held on to round out the top 3.

The 6th and penultimate round of the 2007 BRCA 19T Touring car Nationals took place at the weekend under wet conditions at the Stafford track in the mid West of England. In the slippy qualifying it was newly crowned champion Chris Kerwell, driving for Corally, that claimed the TQ spot ahead of Jonathan Dronfield in 2nd for Schumacher with Corally driver Steve Lissamore in 3rd. In the first leg of the A-main it was a tight battle at the front with Dronfield being gifted the lead after a mistake for Christopher Delves allowed him into the lead. Kerswell caught up to the Mi3 driver but couldnt get passed and so Dronfield took the leg 1 win. Hereford Open Meeting 2007 – Report

Hereford Open Meeting 2007

We received a full report from the Hereford Micro Open event that took place two Sundays ago on the 12th August and which had some of the UK’s best micro off road racers in attendance. The track was a challenging mixture of rumble strips, polished floor drift sections, small kicker jumps, bumpy gym mats, a HUGE 45’ wall ride and equally big table top jump right in front of the rostrum! The track would certainly test car setup and drivers abilities.
