2019 RCRA Queensland State Titles – Report

The Sic Surface 2019 Queensland State titles saw drivers from the local clubs and some drivers from NSW come to race on the Charger’s RC race track on a lovely Queensland winter weekend. This one of a kind track with the Sic Surface coating, produces a high grip, low maintenance, long wearing track that stands up to the elements, Sic Surface is well known in Australia and New Zealand for their BMX tracks, and Charger’s RC track is the first RC track that the company had done, providing some great racing over the weekend. With the high grip track 2WD Mod was always going to be about how hard you could push the buggy, from early on it was going to be the battle between the Australian and Queensland current champ, Christopher Sturdy and his team mate Alex Bernadzik, Christopher Sturdy taking Q1, Q3 and Q4 to take out the TQ with Alex in 2nd and Mitchell Pratt in 3rd. A1 Alex Bernadzik took the win but in A2 and A3 it was all Christopher Sturdy taking the wins and the title over Alex Bernadzik with Mitchell Pratt in 3rd.

JConcepts Summer INS9 – Report

Hobby Action R/C Raceway of Chandler, Arizona played host to the JConcepts Summer INS last weekend. The track is known as one of the finest RC facilities in the US, however the track itself is one of the most challenging surfaces to race on. It really makes the driver to dig deep. You have to be in touch with your car, your setup, your tires, and your ability to not meltdown after a mistake. What Hobby Action teaches is composure, mental strength, line consistency, and speed. This year’s layout was pretty simple, but the jump placement was very tricky and created a lot of opportunities to move forward. Since the layout was simple, the racing was extremely close and everyone loves exciting, close racing. The battle was on in the highly contested 2WD Modified class as Team Associated’s Spencer Rivkin was hungry to defend his home turf and his 2WD National title at the Summer INS. But a great qualifying effort by Xray’s Ty Tessmann saw the Canadian on top for the triple mains. Despite starting 2nd, Spencer was on the attack from the very start of A1, but unfortunately for Ty, he didn’t get more than a lap as he DNF’d from a rear-wheel nut.

JConcepts Super Indoor Tour Rd1 – Report

Summer time racing in Florida can be a huge challenge with daily thunder storms rolling through causing havoc with many of the state’s outdoor tracks. JConcepts decided to keep racing going strong throughout the summer time rain and kicked off its inaugural Super Indoor Tour this past weekend at NewRed Hobbies located in Ocala, Florida. With this new 3-race series, the organisers decided to try out a new race format giving racers more track time and heads-up racing. Qualifying would consist of 2 rounds of 4-minute long qualifiers using the best 3 consecutive laps with a resort between rounds 1 and 2. All racers then get to race double mains (no bumps) for all classes giving them more heads-up racing and multiple chances to produce their best results. Overall finishing position would be determined by your best finish with fastest time being the tie-break, so if bad luck struck in the first main, you still had a shot of the overall win or a better finish from main 2.

BRCA 1/8th Circuit Nationals Rd6 – Report

Round 6 of the BRCA 1/8th Circuit Nationals was held at Mendip RC Raceway this weekend. 32 drivers were in attendance in nitro and 7 had booked in electric. The track was nicely prepared and sprayed to ensure grip would be good and consistent. The track was still dusty for practice on Saturday morning but the grip quickly came up under the Somerset sun. It was all about getting good lines and watching tyre wear, which would prove to be a bit of an issue on race day. Sunday started as usual with the drivers’ briefing, during which a minute silence was observed in memory of Dave Waters, former BRCA Chairman, who recently passed away.
