Dario Balestri sets the pace in The Netherlands

Infinity’s Dario Balestri set the best three lap time in controlled practice for the 1/8th scale class at Round 2 of the Euro Nitro Series Championship in Rucphen, The Netherlands.  It was very close, however, as less than one tenth of a second covered the top seven drivers over their three lap times. “The car was good, the engine was really good – it was just really difficult to find the right balance” was how the current ENS Champion described the practice sessions.  He will try some more small changes tomorrow “until the car is easy to drive”, aiming to find more rear traction in his IF18.

Reedy Race practice rained off in not so sunny California

Sunny California didn’t live up to its billing today with practice for the 22nd running of the Touring Car Reedy Race of Champions being rained off.  With this year’s event the beginning of a new era for the legendary race as it moves from the famous Tamiya RC Raceway, which is no more, to Steel City RC Speedway, invite drivers got just one run in less than ideal conditions, before shortly after lunch the rains returned and the decision was made to call an end to official proceedings.  With cars struggling for traction, reigning 7-time RROC Champion Marc Rheinard joked from the drivers stand it felt like playing Super Mario and running over banana skins. With weather for both Friday and Saturday set to deliver the shorts & t-shirts weather associated with California, Race Director Scotty Ernst issued a new schedule which will see the invitational drivers get two practice runs in the morning before getting down to the real business of 5 rounds of the events unique heads up racing.  A further 5 rounds are planning for Saturday but with rain forecast to arrive again on Sunday afternoon, a call to run the final two rounds of racing on Sunday morning will be made based on the the latest forecast given on Saturday.

E-Buggy win for Ty Tessmann at Lonestar Challenge

Thornhill RC Raceway in Hutto, Texas played host to the Lonestar Challenge last weekend. The event also doubled as the nationals warmup and the event, organised by The Dirt, attracted most of the country’s fast 1/8th off-road racers. Friday was practice day on a wet track, it was watered a couple of times throughout the day which gave good grip. The track started to get smooth and polished up by Friday night and in the first round of electric buggy Xray’s Ty Tessmann qualified 3rd which he backed up by two TQs which would give him the overall TQ. Sunday was mains day, and drivers were still trying to get grip on the polished surface. The organisers did double A-mains for E-Buggy with both mains counting to determine the overall winner. A1 was up first, Tessmann had a mistake fairly early on that he needed to be marshalled for which dropped him quite a ways back to 4th. Ty got back in the groove and was able to make his way by 3rd and 2nd place and then had a good battle with Agama’s Ryan Lutz before making a pass back to the lead which is where he would finish the race. A2 was smoother, Ty was able to just put in clean laps and lead tone to tone, which would give him the overall win in from Ryan Lutz 2nd and Serpent’s Brandon Rose 3rd.
