Franz Engel wins at Austrian 200mm opener

This past weekend the first round of the Austrian 1/10th 200mm Championship took place at the SFMAV Nußdorfring club. With fantastic spring weather, a total of 38 participants made their way to Salzburg. After the qualifiers Leonardo Varga secured the TQ ahead of Gerhard Kandelhart and Christoph Rohrmoser, all running Shepherd cars. The start of the A-main was very turbulent, and due to technical problems of Leonardo, Gerhard could take the lead, but unfortunately later also had to retire from the race. Christoph Rohrmoser took profit of the situation up front, snatching the lead and pulling a gap from the chasing Franz Engel and the rest of the field. Five minutes before the end, tyre strategy came into play. Franz Engel was able to pass Christoph Rohrmoser, who was already on the rims, for the lead and after 45 minutes, Franz was able to take a popular win from Christoph Rohrmoser 2nd and veteran racer Hermann Berger in 3rd, all running Shepherd cars. Over in the Youngsters class it was Simon Engel with the win at his maiden nitro race.
