Xray Racing Series Australia Rd2 – Report

The Canberra club recently hosted round 2 of the Xray Racing Series Australia. Unfortunately the 2019 edition of the club’s round was to end in the same way as 2018 – with rain. The weather looked great at the start of the day, unfortunately as the progressed showers threatened, finally arriving just as the finals started. With the race meeting cancelled the organisers declared the results on the three rounds of completed qualifying. Before the rain, racing in all classes was close with only a few seconds separating the top three drivers in most classes. Alex Ilievski posted his fastest time in round three to take the overall win in Touring Stock 13.5, Nathan Tanti posted his quickest time in round two allowing him to secure 2nd place from an inconsistent Mark Wallin who finished 3rd.

XRS Poland Nitro Off-road – Report

The Xray Racing Series Poland Nitro Off-road was held at the new track in Wlodawa recently. The track features a smooth US-style layout that was really challenging for man and machine as the big jumps and some of the corners make it difficult to pull consistent laps. The weekend kicked off with super dry conditions during Friday’s practice with the grip coming up on Saturday. Bartek Zalewski was the man to beat in 1/8th Buggy and E-Buggy with Seweryn Skowronski and Marek Cisek coming in 2nd and 3rd in the Nitro Buggy class as Sebastian Migal and Wojtek Rzepecki completed the qualifying top 3 in E-Buggy.

Harker & Borneill win at PDX Open

The 2019 PDX Open was held at PDX RC Underground in Portland, Oregon recently. The PDX Open originated to settle the local debate on whether Mod cars were in fact faster over a five minute run than their 17.5 counterparts. The small track has seen comparable lap times between the Mod and Stock classes and many argued the more manageable power of the 17.5 and 13.5 classes provided an advantage. Travis Harker (Xray) set out to show that with proper throttle control and patience navigating the track and traffic, mod power not only provides more fun but faster lap times. He ran a 6.5T motor in 2WD and a 5.5T motor in the 4WD class. After 2 rounds of qualifying he was able to put in clean runs in both classes to start on the pole in both mains.

Coelho takes ‘very important’ win at ETS Austria

Bruno Coelho has claimed a ‘very important’ win at Round 4 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Austria today, the Xray driver becoming the first double winner of the season.  Only sixth at the season opener and also enduring a tough weekend in Madrid where he was only 7th, the reigning champion came into the weekend desperately needing a win to keep his quest for a fourth consecutive ETS Modified title alive. While practice saw the Portuguese driver a little off pace on the championship’s first visit to the tight & technical ERC Wiener Neudorf track, qualifying got things back on track as he secured the overall TQ, and bonus championship point, ahead of points leader Ronald Volker.  Taking an easy win in A1 as Volker struggled for traction early on, he faced a much stronger challenge in A2 but resisting the pressure from the Yokomo driver he wrapped up his 16th ETS career win. Behind, Alexander Hagberg would t-bone Volker in the final dash to the line allowing Marc Rheinard through to second.  The arrival of rain during the third round of mains, meant it looked for a time that Coelho was going to take even more points out of Volker’s lead.  Counting one of two, Rheinard was on to take P2 but after a short delay racing resumed and Volker got the A3 win to secure 2nd with Rheinard completing the podium.

Coelho takes easy A1 win

Bruno Coelho has taken an easy win in the opening A1 at Round 4 of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Austria this morning.  Starting from the TQ, the Xray driver took advantage of a slow starting Ronald Volker to quickly build a gap and take control of proceedings.  Behind Volker the pack was bunched up before contact between Alexander Hagberg and Marc Rheinard opened things up giving the Yokomo driver the breathing space to get his car up to speed.  After a good battle with Lucas Urbain, Hagberg would eventually find a way passed the Awesomatix driver  to recover to third.
