Tebo & Rivkin to battle for first Reedy Race title

Jared Tebo and Spencer Rivkin will battle it out in the final round of racing at OCRC Raceway, California, to lift their first Reedy Race of Champions title.  The penultimate round saw Tebo make the most of a pole start and move a step closer to the one title that has eluded him when he won the opening race ahead of Rivkin.  Starting sixth on the grid it was an important 2nd for Rivkin as 3rd or lower would have ended his shot at winning the 25th running of the legendary race.  Having gone into the round with an outside chance of clinching the title for a second time, unfortunately while Ryan Maifield delivered a win from 5th on the grid Tebo’s win cancelled out any potential gains ending the Yokomo driver’s 2019 challenge.  The other race of the Round saw Tanner Stees take his first win of the event ahead of Michal Orlowski and outgoing champion Dustin Evans.

Tebo moves closer to first Reedy title with 2 rounds to go

Jared Tebo has moved closer to his first ever Reedy Race of Champions title after the Tekno driver made up for a disappointing start to the final day’s racing by taking his 3rd win of 2WD in the fourth round.  After giving up a win in the previous round, Tebo converted a 7th place starting position into a win over pole sitter Ty Tessmann and with two rounds to go he holds a 2-point lead over Ryan Maifield with Spencer Rivkin who is carrying a 5th sitting third.  Also starting P7, Maifield added his fourth win of the event thanks in part to team-mate Ryan Cavalieri.  Making a late mistake, the same place Tebo threw away his win in the previous round, this allowed Cavalieri to go to the front but the new Yokomo signing took a wide line that allowed Maifield back to the front for a win that keeps the former champion in the hunt.  With the best starting position of the trio, starting third, Rivkin couldn’t respond to the pace of pole sitter Broc Champlin and had to settle for a P2 1.6-seconds back on his Associated team-mate.  For defending champion Dustin Evans the round netted him a P4 from 10th, a result that effectively ends his hopes of a third title.

Final day at Reedy opens with important wins for Evans & Rivkin

It is the final day of the Reedy Race of Champions at OCRC Raceway and racing got underway with important wins for defending champion Dustin Evans and Associated team-mate Spencer Rivkin.  Evans opened the 3rd round of 2WD with a win from pole leading home fellow front row starter Tanner Stees to put his title hunt back on track after a difficult first round of 2WD yesterday.  Starting from 6th on the grid, Rivkin took a significant win helped by a first lap pile up and a mistake from front row starter Lee Martin.  The key result of the round was however that of Race 2.  Points leader Jared Tebo would start on the front row alongside pole sitter Chris Sturdy while Ryan Maifield lined up 7th.  Taking an early lead and looking on target to make it three from three to set himself clearly on target for his first ever Reedy Race title, with 2 laps to go the race took a turn with the first of two mistakes from Tebo.  First the Tekno driver over jumped the table top on the penultimate lap ending up on his roof allowing Sturdy to go to the front but luckily for Tebo, Maifield also had issues on the landing. On to the last lap and under pressure from the Yokomo driver Tebo made another error dropping him to 3rd, a result that throws the 25th running of the legendary race wide open again. It was to be a tough start to the day for joint 4WD points leader Ty Tessmann who got a 6th for the round.

Tebo leads going into final day at Reedy Race

Jared Tebo will go into the final day of the Reedy Race of Champions tomorrow as the points leader with four races separating him from potentially winning the legendary race for the first time.  Having ended 4WD as joint points leader, the new Tekno signing made the perfect start to 2WD backing up his first round win with a second win ahead of another of the Round 1 winners Ryan Maifield.  Currently as it stands Tebo has a 3-point lead over both Maifield and Ty Tessmann, the Canadian getting a third from today’s final round.  Joining Tebo in taking wins in the second of the six scheduled 2WD rounds would be David Ronnefalk who held off Ryan Cavalieri and Spencer Rivkin who somehow survived three errors to hold on for the win just ahead of 4WD double winner Michal Orlowski, the Schumacher driver having come through from 10th on the grid.

Perfect start to 2WD for Tebo

Jared Tebo made the perfect start to 2WD at the Reedy Race of Champions being the only one of the four joint leaders after 4WD to register a win.  Running in the final race of the opening round, the Tekno driver took a hard fought win over Joona Haatanen, the Finn led the race for 7-laps before a mistake, but came back at Tebo in the dying stages of the race.  Of the other points leaders, Ty Tessmann would get a second from his race after running out of time to mount a challenge on winner Christopher Sturdy while Spencer Rivkin and Dustin Evans ran in the same race as Tebo and only came away with 5th and 8th respectively.  The 3rd winner of the round would be Ryan Maifield, the former champion taking the win ahead of Dakotah Phend and Brent Thielke.

4-way tie at conclusion of 4WD at Reedy Race

This year’s Reedy Race of Champions is living up to the legendary race celebrating its 25th running with 4WD concluding at OCRC Raceway in a four way tie.  After the six rounds of racing and the single throwout taken into account, Ty Tessmann, Spencer Rivkin, Dustin Evans and Jared Tebo have all ended up on 11 points with Michal Orlowski and Day 1 points leader Joe Bornhorst 1-point behind as the event now switches to 2WD.  The final round of 4WD, this year’s track layout producing one of the closest Reedy battles at the World famous Huntington Beach track, produced all repeat winners.  Opening the round, Rivkin added his second win ahead of defending champion and Associated team-mate Evans.  Next up Orlowski backed up his first ever win at the Reedy Race with a second ahead of Tebo who came through from the back.  The big encounter of the round, Race 3 pitted Ryan Cavalieri, Ryan Maifield and Tessmann up against one another at the front of the grid.  Maifield would lead the way for 5-laps until he had trouble at the front jump which balked Yokomo team-mate Cavalieri but the multiple champion managed to get going ahead of Tessmann as Maifield dropped to third and that is how they would finish.

Orlowski wins loaded heat to move into contention at RROC

The results of the penultimate round of 4WD action at the Reedy Race of Champions has mixed things up on the leader board with Schumacher’s Michal Orlowski claiming victory in a loaded race to move into contention as 2nd place through 5th all sit on 15 points, two off new points leader Jared Tebo.  Lining up on the front row alongside CJ Jelin for the last race of the 5th round, Orlowski came out on top with a late pass on his fellow teenager but it was the result of the drivers behind that really mixed things up.  With the back row made up Ryan Maifield and Ryan Cavalieri, Tebo starting 7th and David Ronnefalk 6th, the stage was set for the first big showdown of this year’s event.  Racing for third, Maifield and Ronnefalk would go at it with the Swede holding strong to any challenge from the American.  With just over a minute to go it looked like Maifield had found a way passed after Ronnefalk went slightly too hard into the raised corner and went wide but the HB Racing driver came back full punch leading to the contact that saw Maifield come off worse.  While Ronnefalk got third, Maifield dropped to 6th behind Cavalieri and 4th placed Tebo with the two exchanging words over the incident.  Ty Tessmann opened his day in the best way possible with a win in Race 1 over Lee Martin, Dakotah Phend and defending Champion Dustin Evans.  For overnight leader Joe Bornhorst it was a contrasting start to Day 2 as he ended up 9th, his race going downhill after an early mistake while running third.  The win would go to JP Richards who saw off Spencer Rivkin.
