Sobue & Rathiesky complete the double double

Akio Sobue put in a dominant performance in what was mostly a precessional race in the Sweep Modified class at TRC this afternoon. Never really challenged, the Japanese driver was able to pull clear of the chasing pack early on and build up a substantial lead by the end. Behind, Nicholas Lee had what can be described a lonely race in 2nd. While Jin Sawada and a very fast starting Jan Ratheisky, starting in 8th, had a good battle for 4th. That battle would become for 3rd as just ahead Andy Moore had a big moment coming onto the main straight and stuffed it into the wall on the main straight but somehow only lost 2 positions and was able to bring it home in 5th. Jin could stay in front of the German to take the final step on the podium with Jan finishing in 4th.

Meen Vejrak TQs & wins at EastRC Invitational

The 2018 EastRC Invitational was held at the EastRC Speedway in Jakarta, Indonesia this past weekend. The race attracted regional racers as well as guests from Thailand, Singapore and any other cities of Indonesia. The 2-day race saw five qualifying rounds and triple finals and it was run in the four classes of Touring Car, Front Wheel Drive, M-Chassis and Dancing Rider and in the premier Touring class it was Meen Vejrak with the TQ and new track record after the five hard-fought qualifiers in which Charlee Phutiyotin, Dominic Quek and Bowie Ginting all scored round TQs. The opening A-main then was a really close and tight one as the top 4 went away from the field to fight for the lead. In the end Meen, Charlee and Bowie finished within less than a second of each other. A2 almost delivered the same story before Charlee and Dominic made contact, which let Meen and Bowie fight for the lead. Meen finally secured the overall win after winning A2, 0.4 seconds ahead of Bowie and five seconds clear of Surikarn who recovered from 7th. With Meen sitting out A3, it would be the decisive round for the remaining podium spots. Dominic passed Charlee to spread some gap while Izzah made a full use of his new tyres to pass Bowie for 2nd place.

Ray Munday wins at 2018 Victorian State Titles

The final major race of the Australian calendar for 2018 was the Victorian State Titles, held at the Knox track in Melbourne with just over 100 entries received. Mother nature played a role this year with unseasonal heavy rain washing out practice and the scheduled 2WD day. The entire event was squeezed into the final day of racing, with the sun and traffic helping the outdoor clay track to groove up perfectly. In 4WD Modified Ray Munday took the TQ from Andrew Selvaggi and 12-year-old Lachlan Munday. In the finals Ray took A1 from Selvaggi after a close battle, with Lachlan Munday taking his first state title A final in A2 to take it to A3. Ray took the win, giving him the overall title from Lachlan, with Selvaggi tieing for third but losing on a countback.
