Nick Salib wins at 2018 Queensland State Champs

This past weekend the Queensland Championships was held at the world class facility England Park Raceway located in Brendale. The weekend consisted of tough, close racing but at the end of the 30-minute final it was to be Nick Salib taking the win driving his Infinity. 2nd was Jeff Hamon driving a Mugen and 3rd Steven Jovanovic driving a Capricorn.

Yugo Nagashima wins Speed King Tour Rd4

The fourth round of the 2018 Speed King Tour took place at the Crest Speedway indoor carpet track in the Gunma prefecture. Although held just one week after the Japanese Electric Touring Car nationals, a lot of top drivers attended this event that saw the running of the usual Modified and Stock classes as well as the Oval class. In the Modified category Yokomo driver Ryosuke Yamamoto took the TQ in Q1 and Q2, while Destiny’s Yugo Nagashima set the pace in Q3. After the top 5 Super Lap qualifying, that determines the pole position, CRC Japan driver Kosuke Suzuki got the fastest time with Yugo’s ‘T car’ while Yugo snatched P2 on the grid as Ryosuke had to settle for 3rd.

Cristobal Herrera wins at Chilean IC Track Nats Rd8

Round 8 of the Chilean National IC Track Championship was hosted by the Aeromodelos de Chile club in Santiago de Chile. In the 1/8th class Francisco Lara (Serpent/Picco) from Spain, after been out of the racing scene for eleven months, took the overall TQ, scoring a new track record of 22.151s in the process. From the tone Francisco took the lead while a huge battle for the 2nd place was going on between Alvaro Jara (Shepherd/Sonic), Matias Otaegui (Xray/Sonic) and Cristobal Herrera. Later however Francisco ran into trouble as his car was loosing performance, allowing Alvaro, Cristobal and Matias to get by. Soon after Cristobal began to attack Jara on every short straight and in every curve, trying to show his car in Jara’s “mirror”. When the final five minutes began, Jara’s car suffered a flame out but thanks to some quick pit work he was able to bring home a 3rd place behind runner-up, Matias Otaegui and eventual winner, Cristobal Herrera.

Clancy & Bloomfield win at BRCA Truggy & E8 Rd4

The fourth round of the BRCA Truggy and E8 Buggy Nationals was held at Herts Model Car Club. Jamie Clancy (Team Associated) would bring home the win in the half-hour long Nitro Truggy A-main, some narrow three seconds in front of AE teammate, Lewis Jones. Agama’s John Hazlewood would round out the 40-laps club in 3rd, another 26 seconds down.

Arredondo & Miller win at JBRL Electric Series Rd5

Round 5 of the 2018 JBRL Electric Off-road Series was held at Hot Rod Hobbies in Saugus, California last weekend. In the premier class of 2WD Open Buggy it was Tekno RC’s Carlos Arredondo with the win from Team Associated driver, Nick Miller. Shawn Blackwell Sr. would round out the podium for TLR.

Felipe Lyon wins at Chilean IC Track Nats Rd8

The 8th round of the Chilean National IC Track Championship attracted a good number of entries, making for some competitive racing throughout the day. After the qualifications, Tomás Ramirez (IGT8/Novarossi) took the pole position for the 30-minutes long A-main encounter while also scoring the fastest lap with a 25.110. At the start of the 3-minutes warm-up time a servo failure already ended the race of Tomás who wasn’t allowed to start in the final. This was the opportunity for his teammate, Alvaro Jara (IGT8/Novarossi), to snatch valuable points in the championship to chase Tomás in the ranking. But Felipe Lyon (Serpent/Novarossi), using the new GQ-Soft Compound tyres and after missing the 7th round of the championship, pushed so hard, that he was able to beat Alvaro Jara to take the win. An interesting battle for the 3rd step on the podium was between Raimundo Puelma (Ofna/Picco), Alvaro Jara Jr. (IGT8/Novarossi) and Benjamín Ramirez (IGT8/GO Engines). Benjamín, with solid driver skills, continued pushing until five minutes before the end of the race, allowing him to get past both drivers to take the 3rd place overall.

Adam Drake trifecta at Pro-Line Shootout

This past weekend Thornhill Racing Circuit hosted the 2018 Pro-Line Shootout. The annual Pro-Line spec tire event had 200 entries and Mugen’s Adam Drake would be the top qualifier in Nitro Buggy, Nitro Truck, and Electric Buggy. In the 40-minute Nitro Buggy final, Adam Drake would lead from the start and ended up taking the victory followed by Team Associated’s Jake Dellinger and Tekno RC’s Tyler Hooks.

Nejc Mihelic wins Austrian 1/8th Nitro Champs Rd3

The Amstetten track in Northern Austria played host to a sizzling hot round 3 of the Austrian IC Track Championship. Before the start of the 45-minute A-main it was Lubi Paunovic who called for a time out and the short period was also taken benefit of by Nejc Mihelic who faced engine troubles in the warm-up period to the A-main. The short time out allowed Nejc to swiftly swap his car’s engine. The final started without Nejc on the grid who restarted his car in the pit and followed the field close to one lap down. At this time Gerhard Kandelhart was leading the race closely followed by Herfried Pucher who recovered after a difficult weekend and found back to speed in the final. After 15 minutes, Pucher took over the lead until the 30-minute mark where the leading cars of Pucher and Mihelic decided to change the outside tyres only. In this phase Mihelic recovered from the difficulties in the beginning and closed the gap to Pucher. In the end Mihelic was able to bring home the win some three seconds in front of Pucher and Paunovic, another two laps down.
