All square at the Reedy Race halfway mark

It is all square at the end of the first half of racing at the Reedy Race of Champions with reigning champion Marc Rheinard and Ronald Volker on the same points when dropped rounds are taken into account. The sixth of the 12 rounds of heads up racing at Tamiya Raceway, would see Rheinard take a win to match Volker’s tally of three wins. With Volker lining up in a separate race, the duo having went up against one another in the previous two rounds, the Yokomo driver couldn’t find a way passed Viktor Wilck getting a P2 from 7th on the grid. For Wilck his win would see him join the list of multiple winners along with Meen Vejrak. After a rough Day 1 of racing, Vejrak made it two out of two in California this morning winning ahead of Jilles Groskamp to move up to third in the points equal with Christopher Krapp who maintained his run of Top 3 finishes despite starting P8.

Volker starts Day 2 with another important win ahead of Rheinard

Ronald Volker has started off the second day of racing at the Reedy Race of Champions with an important win, the Yokomo driver clocking up win No.3 ahead of arch rival Marc Rheinard. Lining up on the front row for the Round 5 encounter with Rheinard and Akio Sobue also on the grid, Volker took two laps to find a way passed pole sitter Andy Moore before pulling clear of the field. Looking on target to cruise to the win as Rheinard worked his way through from his P5 starting position, Volker then had a spin in the kink but such was his lead all still seemed to be under control for the World Champion, but it wasn’t. A few laps later he would have an even bigger moment which was Rheinard’s opportunity but as the Infinity driver went for the pass he rolled allowing Volker to resume his lead as Rheinard found himself under attack from team-mate Sobue but the order remainder unchanged to the finish. Ending the first day of racing 3rd in the standings, Christopher Krapp would come through from the back row to finish second in the opening race of the day as 2015 podium finisher Meen Vejrak posted his first win of the 2018 event. In a somewhat crazy Race 3 in which the kink lived up to its infamous reputation, David Jun showed the youth how it is done to take the win, despite being in a last lap pile-up, ahead of Ryan Cavalieri and points contender Viktor Wilck.

Volker leads Reedy Race at the end of Day 1

Ronald Volker is the leader at the end of the first day of racing at the Reedy Race of Champions, the Yokomo driver holding a single point lead thanks to an important victory in an exciting final race of the day ahead of reigning champion Marc Rheinard. Starting on pole for what was a heavily stacked race, Volker would get beaten into the first corner by the Xray of Jan Rathiesky who stayed out front for the first half of the race. All the time the pack was bunching up behind the German with Volker, Rheinard, Akio Sobue and Jilles Groskamp in the five car train. Volker would be the first to get by with a great move in the left side chicane. It would take 2-laps more for Rheinard to find a way through by but with the two main title contenders evenly matched Volker could maintain the gap joining Rheinard as the only multi winner of the day. In Race 2 of the fourth round, hotly tipped Christopher Krapp got his first win which together with his Top 3 finishes in his previous three races leaves the Yokomo driver 3rd in the points. Starting on pole in Race 1, Nicholas Lee would hold off a challenge from Viktor Wilck, the Serpent driver holding 4th in the standings going to the Day 2 racing action ahead of Sobue and Groskamp.

Rheinard first repeat winner at Reedy Race

Having taken a win in the opening round of racing at the Reedy Race of Champions Marc Rheinard has become the first repeat winner as he held off Christopher Krapp in Race 2 of the third round. Starting from the outside of the front row, the Infinity driver got the jump and broke clear quickly but once Krapp found a way passed pole sitter Randy Caster, he quickly reeled in his fellow countryman. In the end however Krapp got caught at the loop allowing Rheinard to take a victory lap with JJ Wang finishing a close third. Following Rheinard’s win all the attention was on what Ronald Volker could do in Race 3. Starting from pole position Reinard’s team-mate Jilles Groskamp would become the day’s 8th different winner keeping Volker in second which leaves the duo even on points at the top of the standing – Rheinard having 2 wins and a 3rd compared with a win and 2 second places for Volker. In the opening race of the round Ryan Cavalieri came through from 3rd to post his first win followed by pole sitter Barry Baker who had a good battle holding off Jan Ratheisky.

Wins for Sobue, Wang and Wilck in RROC 2nd round

The second round of racing at the Reedy Race of Champions produced an all new batch of winners with Akio Sobue, JJ Wang and Viktor Wilck registering their first wins of the event. In the first of the 3 encounters, Infinity’s Sobue recovered from a first lap altercation with the Tamiya Raceway’s kink to come from the back to win ahead of Meen Vejrak. Also recovering from an early incident, when he caught the kernbing in the sweeper and rolled, Christopher Krapp completed the Top 3 ahead of pole sitter Keven Hebert. Having failed to start in Round 1, Xray’s JJ Wang would bounce back in the best way possible take the Race 2 win ahead of Jilles Groskamp and Nicolas Lee while pole sitter & offroad ace Ryan Cavalieri had a tough race dropping back to 6th. The main attention however would be on the stacked Race 3 in which both title favourites Marc Rheinard and Ronald Volker lined up against Wilck. Both Wilck and Volker had bad starts while Rheinard got things wrong in the chicane while holding third. This and an incident between Volker and Barry Baker played into the hands of the recovering Wilck he would take the win ahead of Volker, with whom he now shares the points lead together with Sobue. A disappointing race for Rheinard given he started ahead of his title rivals he would have to settle for third.

Champion Rheinard opens 21st Reedy Race with win

Reigning Champion Marc Rheinard has opened the 21st running of the Reedy Race of Champions in the best way possible winning the opening race of the first round of racing at Tamiya Raceway in California. Starting on pole for the opening race, the Infinity driver took an easy win ahead of no.2 starter Viktor Wilck with Christopher Krapp moving up one place to complete the Top 3 ahead of Jilles Groskamp. Posting the fastest winning time of the 3 races, Rheinard was also the only driver to post an 11-second lap with the best lap of 11.958. Race 2 of the opening round would produce the best lead battle with Andy Moore coming under intense pressure from Infinity team-mate Akio Sobue but the pole sitter held on for the win despite the pair making contact a number of times. Behind Xray’s Jan Ratheisky completed the Top 3 from 5th on the grid. After a delayed started to Race 3, JJ Wang having an electrical issue that prevented the Xray driver who second fastest in practice yesterday from taking the start, it would be Ronald Volker who came out on top. Fastest in practice yesterday, the Yokomo driver started third behind team-mates Meen Vejrak and Nicholas Lee who was on pole. A great pass around the outside of Lee moved Volker up to second and that soon became the lead when Vejrak became the first casualty of the kink. Rick Hohwart would come through for second from P5 on the grid as Lee and Vejrak battled for third, Lee holding on for the position.

Nitro-West-Masters Rd2 – Report

Round two of six of the Nitro-West-Masters was held at the Haltern track, located in the North of the Ruhr region in Western Germany. 66 drivers meant an impressive entry for the hosting Rallye-Club Haltern club. It was more than only a race weekend because a new tarmac surface on the 234-meter track and a newly-build driver´s rostrum including race-control were dedicated as well as more than 80 people joined the Saturday night party to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Nitro-West-Masters which was initialised by Uwe Baldes back in 2009.

Hanson & Barron win at Gone Bananas race

The Gone Bananas Trophy Race was held at Finish Line Raceway in Indiana recently. In the 2WD Mod Buggy class John Barron II would take the overall TQ with his Stock buggy and he would also lead the A-main until he had a bobble and fall back to 3rd. With some fast laps he was soon back in 2nd again, however he did not manage to catch the leader and finish on the 2 spot behind Frank Honson and in front of Tony Fox.
