2018 Schumacher BTCC Rd1 – Report

The 2018 Schumacher BTCC season started on a cold Easter weekend at the picturesque Cotswold circuit. In spite of the weather there were eight heats and some of Britain’s best touring car drivers in attendance, for their first outdoor race of the year. Olly Jeffries secured TQ in Touring Car Modified for Xray, closely followed by Elliott Harper for Schumacher. A close final was anticipated but unfortunately Elliott’s speed control failed on the start line, which allowed Olly to take a relatively comfortable win from Alex Hagberg (Xray) who fought off a strong challenge from Chris Grainger (Team Associated) in 3rd.

In the end it was Markus Hellquist (Xray) with the win and the overall title as Marcus von Elling came in 2nd in A3, however he had to settle for 4th in the overall standing behind Serpent’s Viktor Wilck 2nd and Team Associated’s Daniel Carlsson 3rd.

Contact Easter GP – Report

The Contact GP took place for the first time last weekend and it was very well attended as we had 96 drivers at the event. The entries were mainly GT12, also with three heats of 13.5 blinky Touring Cars and one heat of LMP12. The race format was four rounds of qualifying and one final for everyone. For GT12 and Touring Cars the duration was six minutes and for LMP12 it was eight minutes. This was done on round by round qualifying with the best two qualifying results to count towards the final grid position. In qualifying it was very close at the top all day in GT12 between the Zen of Ollie Payne and the Schumacher of Aidan Ripley. It went down to the last qualifying heat, which went to Ollie so he lined up on Pole for the A-final.

TQ holder Chicha Rioja De Diego eventually had to settle for 3rd, after some close battles with Jan Ratheisky and Carlos Fernandez Espinosa. Eventually Jan came out on top after the dust had settled to take the win from Carlos Fernandez and Chicha Rioja De Diego. Finally in the Formula class Jan Ratheisky laid down a dominant drive, converting his TQ position into a win from Paco Macias and Pedro Poco Gomez.

The Neo Race 2018 – Report

The 2018 NeoBuggy Race consisted of the same special soul with a new face as the prestigious event was hosted in a new country, at a new track, and couldn’t have been any more different than the old venue at Harper Adams in England. From a tricky clay indoor surface track that was scheduled directly in the heart of Britain’s cold and wet spring, the new venue was twice as big, on a huge permanent outdoor track, under the hot sun in Southern Spain at Redovan Raceway. The old event will be sorely missed, but the new venue was definitely worthy and tested the best drivers from all across Europe. Sure, this year’s Neo didn’t feature any of the top US drivers, but in time, they will most certainly attend as they’ll want to race at one of the best tracks in Europe. Great job by Neobuggy’s Philip Mortstedt on his vision and another successful NeoBuggy race.

Bill Lykaris wins Greek 1/10 GP opener

Round 1 of the Greek 1/10th Nitro On-road Championship was held at the Fanatix Racing Track in Athens last weekend. Bill Lykaris soon made his intensions clear and after scoring promising laps in practice he also brought home the TQ and the fastest lap. Right from the start of the 30-minutes main final Bill opened a gap to 2nd placed Nikos Karabelas and even a change in weather around mid-race, which caused Bill’s engine to run richer and making an extra pit stop necessary, did not hold him from bringing home the win with a 1-lap margin.
