Lutz is top seed going into Nitro qualifying in Xiamen

Ryan Lutz is the Nitro buggy top seed for Qualifying at the 2018 SIGP as he put in a blistering time to go nearly 2 seconds faster over 3 consecutive laps than 2nd placed Yusuke Sugiura. The US driver putting his time down to tweaks made to the car’s setup to make it harder, having felt that the setup he copied from Jonathan Yeung for Rd2 was too soft. Behind Sugiura in 2nd was fellow Japanese Kyosho driver Wataru Takashiro who finally found his rhythm to demote Hu Weiping who will rely on his CP1 time to seed 4th with Chen Guanxian, Jonathan Yeung and Kaja Novotny all improving in the 3rd round to complete the top 6.

Southern Dirt Challenge – Announcement

The Cork Radio Control Car Club will play host to the Southern Dirt Challenge on the weekend of the 24th of June in Ballinhassig, Cork. Classes run are 1/8th Nitro and Electric Buggy with the event kicking off on Saturday with practice from 12pm to 5pm followed by heats and finals on Sunday. Woodyard & Schimmel win Thunder Alley season opener

Thunder Alley Raceway of Wilson, North Carolina held their season opening race recently and in Nitro Buggy it was Brennan Schimmel with the overall TQ. At the start of the main final Austin Woodyard and Brennan Schimmel moved away from the pack and Brennan made a small bobble and Austin took the corner. Schimmel kept in touch for part of the race but had to do a extra pit and some trouble with lap traffic, meaning Austin would take the win from Brennan 2nd and Ken Rand 3rd. In Nitro Truggy it was again Brennan Schimmel with the TQ and at the start of the race he clipped a pipe and dropped to about 5th but he worked his way back up and battled with Michael Kramer for a few minutes and started to check out and go on the lap the field to take the overall win. from Michael Kraemer in 2nd and Leornard Murray in 3rd.

Sugiura heads Controlled Practice at 2018 SIGP

Controlled Practice is in full swing here in Xiamen, China and it is Japanese Kyosho driver Yusuke Sugiura who heads the Nitro times with an impressive 2nd round run that saw him move to the top of the times, leapfrogging Ryan Lutz, the American failing to improve after trying a complete setup change. Chinese National Champion Hu Weiping would remain in 3rd, who along with young Hong Kong driver Jonathan Yeung, failed to improve in the 2nd round as track conditions changed and the surface got more dusty.

Jared Phair takes double INES points series titles

The final round of the INES points series was hosted by 46RC recently. With watering mid-round the grip was more consistent but the tight, red clay track required running extra soft slicks with aggressive tyre sauce. In the 2WD and 4WD classes Jared Phair finished 2nd to take the overall titles from Stephen Maizer (PR Racing) 2nd and Bryan Kata (Team Associated) on the 3 spot with the two also rounding out the championship top 3 results.

Kaja Novotny sweeps Czech EP Off-road Nats Rd1

The opening round of the Czech National Electric Off-road Championship was held in Hrotovice at the same venue as the popular Mibosport Cup. The organisers used the same track layout as during the Mibosport Cup final, meaning things would be pretty close up front. Already in practice Xray’s Kaja Novotny showed a pretty amazing performance in 2WD and Truck, however he struggled a bit in 4WD. The 2WD class then saw Kaja taking the overall TQ from Max Götzl and Ales Bidovsky in 2nd and 3rd.

2018 ROAR Carpet On-road Nationals – Report

The 2018 ROAR Carpet On-road Nationals were held at Apex RC and Hobbies in Murfreesboro, Tennessee last weekend. In the Modified Sedan class, Sam Isaacs and Mike Gee were battling the entire weekend for the top spot and after four rounds of qualifying Sam Isaacs would retain the TQ with Mike Gee in 2nd. Sam then was able to put down two dominating runs in the first two mains to secure the overall title with Mike Gee finishing 2nd overall from Keven Hebert 3rd.

2018 Speed King Tour Rd1 – Report

The sixth season of the Japanese Speed King Tour kicked off at the Rajiten Nagoya indoor tarmac track in the Aichi prefecture last weekend. The event offered Touring Modified, Touring Stock and Oval class racing and saw the Super Pole format being used for the Mod class, a special 1-lap race that sees the top 5 after the third qualifying round battle it out for the overall TQ spot. The 1-lap time attack race was won by ARC driver Yusuke Goto while the TQ after Q3, Infinity’s Akio Sobue, had to settle for a lower starting position.
