Batlle takes 12th consecutive Spanish Nitro Buggy title

The Elda track played host to this year’s Spanish 1/8th Nitro Buggy Championship finale this past weekend. The stage was set for a dramatic race as Mugen’s Robert Batlle and Juan Carlos Canas both had a shot at this year’s overall title and whoever would win would also take this year’s championship. Robert would soon cement his ambitions to snatch his 12th consecutive Nitro Buggy title while Juan Carlos had a bit of a standing start, only to fight back in the semis and to snatch the P2 spot on the main final grid. The 45-minute A-main then saw a tight battle between Battle and Canas until the very last lap when Juan Carlos tried to overtake Robert in an ambitious maneuver that send both on their roofs. A very wise marshal then but both back on the ground simultaneously to not interfere in the title fight and ultimately it was Robert who had the holeshot and took his 12th national Nitro Buggy title in a row by about a second in front of Juan Carlos.

Coelho wins A1 from Kobbevik

Bruno Coelho has taken an easy win in the first A-Main of 4WD at the Euro Offroad Series in Poland.  The Xray driver quickly pulled clear of the field from his TQ starting position to have an uneventful race.  Behind the reigning champion however there was plenty of action with Daniel Kobbevik picking up the pieces after errors by his more senior rivals.  David Ronnefalk would complete the Top 3, the 1:8 World Champion showing good pace against Ty Tessmann and Martin Bayer but coming together with the latter during the 5-minute encounter.

Coelho to start title defence from pole

Bruno Coelho is to start his 4WD title defence from pole with the Xray driving securing the overall 4WD TQ in Warsaw, Poland.  The Portuguese driver went into the fourth & final qualifier with only team-mate Martin Bayer able to deny him from becoming Top Qualifier for a second time at the Euro Offroad Series season opener.  Setting the TQ pace from team-mate Ty Tessmann he however suffered a CVD failure on his final lap allowing Tessmann post his first TQ run of his EOS debut weekend.  Behind, David Ronnefalk would back up his P3 in Q3 with a second for the round.  This result will see the HB Racing driver start as the best non Xray driver in 4th behind Bayer and youngster Daniel Kobbevik, Xray having a total of six cars in the A-Main.

Coelho opens Day 3 of EOS Poland with TQ

It the 3rd and final day of racing at EOS Poland and Bruno Coelho has kicked things off by posting his second 4WD TQ run.  The Xray driver again had a distinct advantage topping the times by almost 4 and a half seconds from team-mate Ty Tessmann.  With Xray having filling the Top 3 in yesterday’s first two rounds of qualifying, that domination was finally broken as HB Racing’s David Ronnefalk took the third quickest time.  Having been part of the Xray Top 3s yesterday, taking the opening qualifier, Martin Bayer would have a messy run ending up P11.  Schumacher’s Michal Orlowski not impressed with the Czech’s driving, the Pole classified 32nd for the round after being hit in the rear by Bayer during the qualifier.

Bayer TQs opening 4WD qualifier at EOS Poland

Picking up where they left off last season, Xray have dominated the first round of 4WD qualifying at the season opener of the Euro Offroad Series in Poland. Fresh from their impressive 2WD podium sweep earlier in the day, it was Martin Bayer who topped the first of the four 4WD qualifiers followed by Ty Tessmann and Bruno Coelho who set the initial TQ pace before the first of two mistakes. As in 2WD, it was Schumacher’s Michal Orlowski who was best of the rest as he posted the fourth fastest with Team Associated’s Joona Haatanen and Yokomo’s Lee Martin completing the Top 6.

Coelho wins EOS season opener as Xray fill 2WD podium in Poland

Bruno Coelho will leave Poland as a somewhat surprise leader of the Euro Offroad Series 2WD standings after taking the overall win at the Season #7 opener. With 2WD Buggy far from being RC racing’s versatile super star’s favourite category, the Xray driver took victory in A3 to wrap up his third consecutive overall 2WD win of the championship.  Also Top Qualifier in Warsaw, the reigning 4WD champion has registered the maximum points possible. Behind, Martin Bayer and first time EOS visitor Ty Tessmann would make it an all Xray podium denying Michal Orlowski a repeat of his home double victory he took last season.  With the Schumacher driver finishing 4th, his title predecessor Lee Martin would finish 5th with the result highlighting the progress Xray have made with their 2WD.

Bayer wins exciting A2 from Tessmann

While A1 didn’t provide much entertainment with Bruno Coelho taking an easy win from pole position, the second encounter at Euro Offroad Series would be a much more heated affair with Martin Bayer come out the victor ahead of EOS debutant Ty Tessmann.  While Coelho looked to wrap up a third straight overall EOS victory having opened a gap over his rivals once again, the Xray driver would get things wrong at the double in front of the drivers stand with some questionable marshalling seeing him rejoining in the middle of the 2nd place battle between Bayer, Michal Orlowski and Tessmann.  That battle was reduced to three when Orlowski crashed on landing at the same double Coelho lost his lead, a further mistake then putting Coelho out of the picture.  Showing some restraint, while Tessmann had the quicker car but he couldn’t find a way passed Bayer despite getting alongside him on occasions.  Going an extra lap over the rest of the field, in the end Bayer would take the win by 2/10ths with Coelho third and Orlowski fourth, over 1.5-seconds further back.

Coelho wins A1 with faultless drive

Bruno Coelho has won the opening A-Main at the season opener of the Euro Offroad Series in Warsaw, Poland.  Having secured the TQ yesterday, the Xray driver drove a faultless race to win easily ahead of reigning champion Michal Orlowski.  Starting from third on the grid, Orlowski would have a great first lap getting by Martin Bayer to put Coelho in his sights.  While he would close down the 4WD Champion, having just set the fastest lap of the race he would make a mistake next time round and with just three laps to go Coelho could back off his pace and cruise to the win.  Behind the two title favourites, Team Associated’s Joona Haatanen came through from fifth on the grid to complete the Top 3 benefiting from mistakes by Bayer who would finish 4th and Martin who dropped back to 6th by the finish.
