Patrick Hofer wins at Swiss Nitro Buggy Nats Rd6

Patrick Hofer wins at Swiss Nitro Buggy Nats Rd6

Round six of the Swiss Nitro Buggy Nationals was held in Courgenay over the weekend. Team Associated’s Patrick Hofer would take the TQ after the qualifiers but team mate Ronny Lüber secured himself the pole position for the A-main event after a very quick run in the semifinals. With an 8th place in his semi, after a longer-than-planned pitstop, Patrick grabbed a very lucky 10th place on the grid. At the start of the 45-minute main, Ronny soon got under pressure of a swift Jeremy Pittet (HB Racing). After the first rounds of pit stops Ronny was still in the lead, although hardly chased by Jeremy. Once the traffic and the bumpy track kicked on, both started to make mistakes and this promoted third placed Patrick Hofer into the lead that he would hold onto until the checkered flag. Behind him the race for the runner-up spot was on between Lüber and Pittet and it was simply decided by the amount of mistakes of both with Pittet ultimately holding the upper hand over Lüber. Elswhere in the Amateur class it was Daniel Föllmi to take the win from Sebastien Cuanoud in second and Stefan Wüthrich in third.

Norwegian Electric Off-road Nationals – Report

Norwegian Electric Off-road Nationals – Report

The Norwegian Electric Off-road Nationals, run in 2WD Modified and 4WD Modified Buggy classes, were held this part weekend at the Innherred RC Klubb in Levanger. The weather forecast wasn’t too promising but after some hard work of the club and some volunteers the clay track was ready for the weekend of racing. The weather limited practice before the event so at first it looked like the local drivers would be on top. Yokomo’s Daniel Kobbevik had a good start into the event as he showed a very fast pace from early on. Behind him, Roy Gemble also was very quick but electrics gizmos later on meant the BQ for the unlucky driver. The 2WD top 3 after the qualifiers would then read Daniel Kobbevik on the TQ from Eirik Andreassen (Yokomo) and Torbjorn Doler (Team Associated).

Jörn Neumann wins German 1/8th Nitro Buggy Nats Rd1

Jörn Neumann wins German 1/8th Nitro Buggy Nats Rd1

The first of two final rounds for the German 1/8th Nitro Buggy Nationals were held this past weekend at the MSC Sand/Main e. V. club, host of the 2014 Buggy A Euros. The event started out wet but both the weather and track conditions got better over the weekend. Jörn Neumann would take the overall TQ after getting into the groove and winning the third, fourth and fifth qualifier. Behind him, Carsten Keller and Alexander Schmitt, who won Q2, made up the top 3 while the winner of the opening qualifier, Aaron Müller, had to settle for fourth overall. The semifinal B then went to veteran racer, Daniel Reckward from Sebastian Winterstein and Burak Kilic while the semi A was won by Jörn Neumann from Micha Widmaier and Philipp Guschl. The 40-minute main final then saw a bad start of Jörn while Micha made maximum use of the situation until Jörn slowly but steadily recovered. An additional fuel stop of Micha in the closing stages of the final along with a small error of the leader than allowed Jörn to made up some ground and to eventually taking the lead to win the opening round of the German Nationals. 2.5 seconds behind, Micha Widmaier ended the race on the runner-up spot while Alexander Schmidt completed the podium result.

Greiner deserving World Champion after faultless race

Greiner deserving World Champion after faultless race

Dominic Greiner is the new Nitro Touring Car World Champion.  Widely regarding one of the world’s fastest 200mm drivers the German finally took the sport’s biggest prize heading a Serpent 1-2 in Gubbio, Italy.  Starting 3rd on the grid, he quickly made the race his own with a faultless drive eventually crossing the line one lap up on his rivals for a much deserved win. With Top Qualifier Dario Balestri’s race lasting just 9 laps due to diff failure,  Super Pole winner Alessio Mazzeo would briefly take over the lead when the problem sent his fellow countryman’s Capricorn on the grass with only 2-minutes on the clock. Staying out front for 2-laps, Alessio couldn’t match the pace of his team-mate and once Greiner went to the front the attention of the race was on who would fill the podium. With less than 10-minutes to go, that would be decided in an epic three way battle between crowd favourite Mazzeo, Simon Kurzbuch and Bruno Coelho. On the last lap it looked like Mazzeo would throw away 2nd but while Kurzbuch would get him into the corner the Italian had better traction to the line snatching the runner-up spot by 6/100ths of a second and sending the large attendance into a frenzy.  Covering a race distance of 209 laps of the fast Miniautodromo Internazionale M.Rosati track, a bad last lap would result in Coelho missing the podium by 1.7-seconds. The best non-European finisher Takaaki Shimo would complete the Top 5 with only one car failing to finish the race.
