Davide Ongaro wins Buggy Euros warm-up

In a weekend that saw many high-class (warm-up) races it was Team Associated’s Davide Ongaro who would take the win at the EFRA 1/8th Nitro Buggy European Championship warm-up held at the Ongaro Ring in Sacile, Italy. Xray’s Marco Baruffolo also looked like he would be in the mix for the win in the main final, however he was hampered by flame-out issues. Up front and behind Ongaro it was the duo of Mugen’s Robert Batlle and HB Racing’s David Ronnefalk who fought for the runner-up spot with the better end for David who took benefit of a last-minute situation Robert had with a back marker. Ultimately David would come in 2nd a lap down on Davide as Robert had to settle for 3rd, some seven seconds behind on David. TLR’s Renaud Savoya and Kyosho’s Joao Figueiredo would complete the top 5 results.

‘Great Team Job’ gives Balestri Infinity’s first 1/8th ENS TQ

Dario Balestri has secured Infinity’s first ever pole position in the 1/8th class at the ENS.  The Japanese manufacturer, a supporter of the ENS since the end of the 2015 season has achieved success in almost all categories of racing, but remarkably, a 1/8th ENS TQ had still eluded them.  Reacting immediately after the last run, the current ENS and World Champion instantly remarked that it was a “great team job”, indicating firstly towards team mate Carmine Raiola, who topped the final qualifying round allowing Balestri to secure pole.  Also noting the rest of the team, including the mechanics of the two drivers, he said a small mistake in the last round prevented him taking Q4 as there was “nothing between the top three” – the two Infinity pilots and Mugen’s Robert Pietsch.

Leino TQ’s 1/10th at Dutch ENS

Teemu Leino has taken his fourth overall ENS TQ despite failing to match his earlier results in this evening’s final two qualifiers.  With his earlier wins in Q1 and Q2, that was enough to secure him the overall pole position, the winner in Bologna extended his Championship points lead thanks to TQ bonus point.

Balestri remains on top in Rucphen

After topping practice, Dario Balestri opened up qualifying with the fastest time in Q1 and backed it up with a slightly faster time in Q2 to hold the lead here in the 1/8th scale class at Round 2 of the Euro Nitro Series.  Two very close rounds of qualifying saw two seconds cover the top five in the first qualifier, and two seconds then covering the top eight in the second round.  The top four positions were the same in both rounds, as Balestri headed Simon Kurzbuch, Carmine Raiola and Robert Pietsch after each four minute encounter.

Leino leads early qualifying at ENS

With qualifying getting away over 4 hours later than planned, due to unexpected rain on Saturday morning, it was Teemu Leino who set the pace in the first round of qualifying for the 1/10th scale class, edging out team mate Jilles Groskamp by seven tenths of a second.  Top seed from practice, Leo Arnold was matching pace with Groskamp for the majority of the four minute qualifier, until a mistake on the final lap saw him roll his Xray off the track.  This allowed fellow Frenchman Quentin Leroux, running in the group before the top heat, to take third in the opening round.

Kasekamp & Lainemae win at Estonian Off-road Nats Rd1

Round 1 of the Estonian Off-road Nationals was held at the Tartu RC track recently featuring all sorts of scales, ranging from 1/10th scale up to 1/5th Large Scale, making for ever changing conditions on the astroturf and red clay track. In qualifying it would be Hendrik Lainemae setting the pace in both E-Buggy and Nitro Buggy. The trend would continue in the finals. Nitro Buggy would see a lot of interesting situations for the top drivers. Hendrik would lead the field for the start of the 30-minute final but flamed out on the in-lap for the first round of pit-stops. Karl Kasekamp would take the lead, closely followed by Robin Ilus. Some 14 minutes into the race, Karl would pit after mishearing someone else being called in. Robin Ilus would suffer a flame-out and a shaky last pit stop for Hendrik would give Karl a safe gap to pit an extra time before the end. On the last laps Hendrik would pass Rainer Ressar, who had a mostly clean recovery drive after his 1st lap which dropped him to last, for 2nd position.

Dario Balestri sets the pace in The Netherlands

Infinity’s Dario Balestri set the best three lap time in controlled practice for the 1/8th scale class at Round 2 of the Euro Nitro Series Championship in Rucphen, The Netherlands.  It was very close, however, as less than one tenth of a second covered the top seven drivers over their three lap times. “The car was good, the engine was really good – it was just really difficult to find the right balance” was how the current ENS Champion described the practice sessions.  He will try some more small changes tomorrow “until the car is easy to drive”, aiming to find more rear traction in his IF18.
