Kurzbuch is Top Qualifier in Aigen

Simon Kurzbuch is Top Qualifier for tomorrow’s penultimate round of the Infinity Euro Nitro Series in Aigen.  The reigning champion claimed his 3rd consecutive pole position at the Austrian track with a dominant qualifying performance topping all four rounds of qualifying.  His third TQ of the season which is so far void of a victory, the Shepherd driver will lead away the 45-minute final ahead of Toni Gruber and championship leader Dario Balestri.  Gruber secured his best qualifying of the season by backing up his his Q1 performance with another P2 time in the final qualifier allowing him to overhaul Balestri on the grid.  Q4 would see Balestri unable to battle to maintain his position due to a rich engine.  A former Top Qualifier of the race, Robert Pietsch will start 4th with Serpent’s Merlin Depta making it five different manufacturers at the front of the grid.

Greiner claims first TQ of season at ENS Austria

Dominic Greiner has claimed his first overall TQ of the 2018 Infinity Euro Nitro Series, the Serpent driver securing his 7th ENS career TQ by finishing second fastest to Erik Dankel in the final round of qualifying in Austria.  Having taken the opening two rounds of qualifying around the Aigen track, Q3 would see him flip his car with Thilo Tödtmann surprising everyone to come out on top after a last lap mistake from Dankel.  This meant Tödtmann had the opportunity to deny the World Champion pole for tomorrow’s 45-minute main but it would be Dankel who was fastest, completing the job he looked to do in the previous qualifier with just 6/100th in hand over Greiner.  With two from four to count, Greiner had the perfect score to secure pole while Dankel’s TQ run promoted him to 2nd ahead of Tödtmann who rounded out qualifying with a P5 run.  While having two P2 runs behind Greiner, championship leader and previous round Top Qualifier Jilles Groskamp will start 4th ahead of Francesco Tironi and Dirk Wischnewski.

Gruber & Greiner top free practice as rain halts action at ENS Austria

In an all too familiar situation at races this Summer, rain has halted action at the third round of the Infinity Euro Nitro Series in Austria.  After completing 8 rounds of free practice in dry conditions yesterday and a further 3 rounds this morning, just after the drivers briefing and scheduled lunch the rain arrived at the Aigen-Schlägl.  With 2 rounds of controlled practice and the first of the 5-scheduled qualifiers on today’s timetable, racers waited for the track to dry with the Uruguay – France World Cup game helping to pass the time.  However, with the track drying slowly, the rain returned and with no chance of any meaningful running the ENS organisers call time on the day.
