First day of qualifying belongs to Boots

First day of qualifying belongs to Boots

Elliott Boots stamped his authority on the opening day of qualifying at the 1:8 Offroad World Championships, the Kyosho driver making it two from two in Vegas as he took the second round of qualifying.  Having taken the opening qualifier from team-mate Jared Tebo, the former Worlds Top Qualifier set the pace on a much slower track ahead of Ryan Cavalieri, his time advantage similar to that of Q1.  Behind them, star of practice David Ongaro made up for a disappointing first qualifier to complete the Top 3 ahead of Dakotah Phend and Ryan Lutz with Joern Neumann 6th.  For reigning champion Ty Tessmann, 9th was the best he could do after he went with a wrong tyre compound choice.

Daniel Kobbevik joins Serpent 1/8th off-road team

Serpent have announced the addition of Norway’s Daniel Kobbevik to their 1/8th off-road team. An EOS A-main finisher and national frontrunner, Daniel is a 1/10th scale specialist but he will now further up his game in the challenging 1/8th buggy class. He will be working closely with his fellow Serpent drivers Shin Adachi, Billy Easton, Jörn Neumann as well as Gerd Strenge with his first outing for his new chassis sponsors being this week’s IFMAR 1/8th Gas Buggy World Championships in Las Vegas. Due to a very late decision to attend, Daniel had to go through the much discussed qualifying race in which he was able to earn a ticket for the actual Worlds.

The Worlds according to Ruona – Testing, practice or training?

The Worlds according to Ruona – Testing, practice or training?

We made it through a great practice day today at the worlds and so far things are looking pretty normal. The track is developing character with some bumpy places here and there and most certainly will continue. I see some drivers having trouble finding their marks out there so it’s obviously more difficult than it looks. After the 180 down the straight there is a nice hole forming and on the face of the following roller / jump. Things will only get more interesting from here.

BRCA 1/8th Circuit National Championship Rd8 – Report

Round 8 of this year’s BRCA 1/8th Circuit National Championship was hosted by the Mendip circuit in Weston Super Mare. With the championship already won by Serpent’s Marc Green with an almost perfect score, the race was on for the minor places. The competition up front would be close with the inclusion of Infinity factory driver Kyle Branson to the entry. Kyle would be racing the new car for the second time in preparations for the final ENS race. His car was also fitted with O.S. engines for the first time to allow him to gain valuable setup knowledge and drivability experience. On Saturday, the pace early on was quick but the track seemed to slow during the day with the lap times around 0.4 seconds slower than the best times of 15.2 seconds. The pace setters were Green and Branson. The Mendip track asphalt as become very abrasive over the years making it critical on tyre wear.

Davide Ongaro continues to set the pace in practice at the 1:8 World Championships in Las Vegas, the talented young Italian opening Day 3 of the event by topping the first of the seeding rounds of practice.  Having shot to the top of the time sheets in yesterday evening’s third round of practice, Ongaro proved that time was on merit as he again topped the times from Elliott Boots, the separation 6/10ths of a second.  Behind them US National Champion Spencer Rivkin found a big improvement when it counted as he managed to get inside the Top 20 for the first time with 3rd for the round ahead of Round 1 pace setter Jared Tebo.  For reigning World Champion Ty Tessmann a part failure at the start of the 10-minute run would result in the HB Racing driver ending up only with the 21st fastest 3-consecutive laps.
