Boots takes opening qualifier in Spain

Boots takes opening qualifier in Spain

Elliott Boots has TQ’d the opening round of qualifying at the 1:8 Offroad European Championships in Redovan, Spain. The reigning champion was fastest over the first of the five 5-minute qualifiers from fellow British driver Darren Bloomfield, the former champion just under a second off the Kyosho driver. Turning out to be an all Champions affair at the top of the time sheets, former back to back champion David Ronnefalk would post the third fastest time followed by former double champion Robert Batlle. Having topped seeding yesterday Daniel Bernabe would struggle in the opening qualifier with a combination of running on new tyres that left him with an aggressive car and not getting the set-up on his SOAR correct for today’s cooler overcast conditions. The Spaniard would also have a 4-second mistake on his last lap. This left João Figueiredo to be the surprise of Q1 with last year’s Euro B Top Qualifier getting a P5 ahead of Neil Cragg who completed the Top 6.

Carlos Manuel wins at Portuguese IC Track Nats Rd4

Carlos Manuel wins at Portuguese IC Track Nats Rd4

Round four of the Portuguese Nitro On-road Nationals was held at the Pista das Travessas in Sao Joao da Madeira. Carlos Manuel would take the TQ after troublefull qualifiers with the Superpole being won by young Tomas Andrade. With track temperatures reaching 60 degree Celsius tyre wear was very high and a new set of tyres only lasted about 15 minutes. The main final was then dominated by tyre tactics and it was the pole setter who made the best out of the conditions, setting flying laps in the first 15 minutes to get enough margin on the second placed driver to change all four tyres. At the end Carlos would bring home the win three laps ahead of runner-up, Hugo Mendes with Tomas Andrade rounding out the top 3 result.

Bernabe Top Seed as pace proves genuine

Bernabe Top Seed as pace proves genuine

Having surprised the entire paddock at RC Redovan when he was fastest in the opening timed practice, Daniel Bernabe quashed all question marks over his time by again topping the second & final practice at the 1:8 Offroad European Championships.  Improving on his earlier 3-consecutive laps by 1-second, the SOAR driver again topped the times in Spain from defending Champion Elliott Boots, the Kyosho driver also bettering his CP1 time by 8/10ths. Pretty much a repeat of CP1, David Ronnefalk would again post the third fastest time, the HB Racing driver finding a similar improvement in time to Boots.  Behind the former champion, Mugen’s Bryan Baldo will be seeded 4th for qualifying at his home race with Xray’s Martin Wollanka improving from 12th after the first practice to get P5 just ahead of Robert Batlle.

Patrick Hofer wins Swiss 1/8th Buggy Nats Rd5

Patrick Hofer wins Swiss 1/8th Buggy Nats Rd5

The fifth round of the Swiss 1/8th Buggy Nationals was held at the ORCM club in Montagny. The weather conditions were pretty challenging with heavy rain on Saturday and burning sun on Sunday, meaning the track surface would break up, revealing loads of stones on the racing line which made car setup pretty difficult. The A-main event was highlighted by the engine flame-outs of various drivers and with about 10 minutes to go, the race for the win was a 2-horse battle between Patrick Hofer and Joachim Kallen. Both raced nose to tail with Joachim in front, fending off all attacks by Patrick. Then, in the last corner of the final lap, Joachim’s engine stalled “LeMans 2016 style”, handing Patrick the win in an exciting final.

Surprise as Bernabe tops boot in 1st controlled practice

There were a few surprised faces at the end of the first round of controlled practice at the 1:8 Offroad European Championships in Spain as the name Daniel Bernabe appeared at the top of the timing screen ahead of reigning champion Elliott Boots.  A former European Semi Finalist, Bernabe would take his SOAR to the fastest 3-consecutive laps in the first of the two seeding rounds by just 6/100th of a second from yesterday’s free practice pace setter.  Behind them 3/10th back, David Ronnefalk would complete the Top 3, the Warm-up Race winner finally showing some strong form around the massive RC Redovan track as he posted the fastest lap with a time of 52.654.
