Dirk Wischnewski wins at Central German Champs Rd2

Dirk Wischnewski wins at Central German Champs Rd2

Round two of the Central German Championship was held at the MSC Kirchhain track. After three rounds of qualifying it was Dirk Wischnewski who took the TQ in the 1/10th scale class with Patrick Schäfer lining up in second only 0.2s behind. Mirco Thalheimer also made it directly into the main with a 3rd place, rounding out an all-Shepherd top 3. The main final then was a done deal for Wischnewski. After a few laps Schäfer’s car was hit in the back by another competitor, resulting in a body tuck meaning a short stop near the pitlane was necessary. Later on Patrick’s engine stalled one time meaning any chance to fight for the lead was gone. Unimpressed Wischnewski cruised around the track and crossed the finishing line in first position with a massive gap of 7 laps in front of Michael Hauser (Xray). Patrick Schäfer recovered to 3rd another lap down but posting the fastest laptime of the final.

It was the usual guys Alex Thurston, Joe Kerry, Mark Green and of course Kyle Branson and Alexander Hagberg. Sunday morning and there was a round of practice for all drivers in which most opted to test final size tyres. Then everyone got stuck into the proper action, due to the temperatures rising the TQ spot was pretty much decided in round 1 where Mark Green came out on top to take overall TQ as well, Alex Thurston taking 2nd and John Zottl, who was the dark horse, came through to take 3rd. Kyle Branson’s round 4 time would put him 4th on the grid for the final behind Alex Thurston, Joe Kerry who was one of the only guys to improve on his time to take 2nd on the grid behind Mark Green.

Xray’s Martin Wollanka would dominate the qualifying with his FX-powered ride to take the overall TQ but after the semifinals he had to settle for second behind Dominic Bauer (Mugen/Novarossi) as he pushed a bit too hard, making two mistakes in the progress. The main final then was a 2-horse race between Dominic and Martin with both wanting to take the win. Running with the same pace the two were never separated by more than five seconds and at the end Martin finished only one second ahead of Dominic while Michael Nalukowy (Kyosho/O.S.) had to settle for third.

Markus Hellquist doubles at Nordic Championships

The Nordic Nitro On-road Championships were held this weekend at the Eskilstuna track in Sweden. The race also doubled as the warm-up for the EFRA 1/8th Track Euros later in July and thus the event attracted drivers from six countries but unfortunately the weather would play a major factor during the weekend. The 1/8th main final was a 3-horse race for the win with Mikael Fransson being the fastest driver in qualifying, from Roland Ström and Markus Hellquist. Tricky conditions laid the ground for a very exciting race with the lead swapping several times and in the end Markus Hellquist was the one to finish first and to bring home the victory. Mikael Fransson finished in second and since Roland Ström was not able to finish the race, Italian driver of Marco Vanni rounded up the podium in third.
