Masao Tanaka wins at Sagamido Challenge

Masao Tanaka wins at Sagamido Challenge

The Sagamido Challenge was recently held at the SRT track in Aikou, Japan in the four nitro on-road classes of 1/8th Expert, 1/8th Sport, 1/10th GPT and 1/8th GT. A total of 55 drivers attended and in the 1/8th Expert category it was Worlds runner-up, Takahaki Shimo who set the TQ after the two rounds of 4 minute qualifying, followed by young and talented Shoki Takahata and Keisuke Fukuda in second and third respectively. Masao Tanaka would follow in fourth. The 20 minute A-main was sort of a sprint race with the top drivers pulling away swiftly while Masao Tanaka suffered a first corner crash, but he would recover soon, eventually passing Fukuda during the early stages of the race. Mid-race the traction conditions changed instantly with the previously low grip track changed to high grip as the dust got whipped away, causing a lot of trouble for many drivers. Traction rolling was soon a problem for most with Masao taking profit of the situation as he was able to grab the win one lap head of Takahaki Shimo.

Nicolas Bregante takes South American title

The 2016 South American Championship and FAMAR Cup was recently held in the city of Medellin, Colombia. With the track being located 3000 metres above sea level everyone had a hard time adjusting the engines to the conditions. The opening qualifier was held on Thursday with Q2 and Q3 being run on Friday but due to rain the final qualifier had to be postponed until Saturday. Nicolas Bregante would come out fastest in the 1/8th Nitro Buggy qualifiers to grab the overall TQ and he would also take the pole position for the hour long A-main after winning his semifinal in very muddy conditions due to a big storm. Nicolas continued to dominate the race by also coming out fastest in the A-main to take the South American Championship title from runner-up, Carlos Segui.

Michael Schäfer take 200mm class win at SRC

The first round of the Swiss Racing Cup was recently held at the iconic Lostallo track. Xray’s Michael Schäfer took the TQ after the qualifiers from Xray team mate Patrick Fankhauser in second. The main final then was a pretty difficult affair as it started to rain some eight minutes into the race but it only was a short shower of a couple of minutes and so the track started to dry soon after. At the end Michael was able to bring home the win in front of Stefan Wüthrich (Xray) and Philipp Bühler (Xray), making it an Xray podium lock-out.

Niblett, Hazlewood & Currie win at SRS Rd2

The second round of the SRS 2016 series was held on a glorious day at Herts over the weekend. Warm and sunny weather and a recently revamped track brought the drivers out in their droves for this round and they would not be disappointed, with excellent track conditions and great weather. The main Nitro buggy class was, as is always the case at Herts, a very closely fought competition and it was a bunch of juniors who dominated the qualifying sessions with Callum Niblett coming out on top, with Ollie Currie second and Jonny Skidmore third. The times were ever so close however, as Callum took round two by only 2/10’s of a second from Jonny would prove. Andrew Bardetta wins at Serpent Cup Race

The Australian Serpent Cup was held over the weekend with rain reduced qualifying from 6 rounds down to 4. Tim Lee took the TQ in 1/10th 200mm Touring followed by David Chen and Joel Casey. In the final Tim got the early lead followed by David Chen and Andrew Bardetta, all three drivers within a couple of seconds of each other. Chen managed to get the lead a few mins in and Bardetta moved into second. From their it was a race long battle between the pair with the lead swapping a couple of times and never more than 2 seconds separating them. Lee was in a comfortable 3rd only 6 seconds behind the leading duo. The battle was on in the pits with every pitstop critical. With a couple of mins to go Bardetta closed the gap to within one second of Chen. On the last lap Chen ran out of fuel coming onto the back straight which gave Bardetta the victory and moving Lee up to second for an Xray 1-2. David Chen (Serpent) managed to hold onto third, being a lap ahead of fourth.
