Mattia Collavo grabs Italian 1/8th F1 class title

Last weekend’s Italian 1/8th Nitro On-road Championship finale not only saw the title decision in the Expert class but also the F1 category title was up for grabs. The championship had to be decided between Mattia Collavo – who took the super pole – and Roberto de Cesare with the fastest driver in qualifying being Valerio Moccia. The start of the final saw no surprises. But 5 minutes into the race de Cesare had a crash and destroyed the rear end of his car which allowed Collavo to back off the throttle and cruise to the title win. At the front it was Luca Martini who took over the lead after Moccia had to retire because of a broken engine. Martini drove an excellent race and crossed the finishing line in first position while Collavo took it easy, finishing in 4th position and scoring enough points to win the Italian Championship in the F1 category.

Martin Wollanka wins Austrian Nitro Buggy Nats Rd4

Martin Wollanka wins Austrian Nitro Buggy Nats Rd4

The fourth and final round of the Austrian 1/8th Nitro Buggy Nationals was held at the A-Team Graz track. The newly prepared surface offered high yet smooth traction and it was Xray’s Martin Wollanka who set the pace by winning three qualifiers to take the TQ while Serpent’s Hupo Hönigl closely followed in second spot. After the semifinals Martin placed his buggy on the pole position for the 45-minute main final with Hupo coming in second, only one second short of Wollanka’s time. The main then saw Martin and Hupo running like a freight train and thanks to a different fuel strategy Hupo was even able to take the lead at some point but a silly mistake had Hönigl collide with a back marker so he would loose contact to Martin. From that moment on Wollanka was able to cruise to the win with Hupo securing a happy second place. Dominik Bauer (Mugen) would round out the top 3 result.
