Dutch 1/8th Nitro On-road Nationals Rd2 – Report

Dutch 1/8th Nitro On-road Nationals Rd2 - Report

The MAC de Baanbrekers track in Rucphen in the South of the Netherlands played host for last weekend’s round 2 of the national Nitro On-road Championship. Free practice on Saturday started out wet, but during the day the sun came out and the drivers were able to start finding a good setup for Sunday. In the premier NK class, Belgian driver Gunther van Staey (Serpent) returned from absence from the first round due to sickness, but it was Arie Manten (Shepherd) who came out on top after qualifying. The semifinals then gave some surprising results, because both Arie Manten and Ad Vissenberg (ARC) had to retire due to engine troubles and also the main final held some drama, because Gunther Van Staey with engine troubles and Martin Zevenhoven (Serpent) with an empty tank and a broken glowplug would not compete for a podium finish. In the end, it was last year’s EC 40+ winner Frank Baggen (ARC) who took the win in the 30 minute final from Joey Sorber (Shepherd) in 2nd and Donny Blommers (Mugen) in 3rd.

BRCA 1/8th Circuit Nationals Rd4 – Report

The fourth round of this year’s BRCA 1/8th Circuit National Championship was hosted by the Halifax circuit in West Yorkshire. The entry list was good, so the competition between drivers in their respective skill levels would be very close. Local driver Tim Wood was the first absentee on Saturday due to racing the Euro B finals in Italy but was due to attend on Sunday after a night flight and travel back Sunday morning. Saturday and the pace was set by Mark Green with his Novarossi-powered Serpent but the gap back to the chasing pack was around 0.1 second per lap with the track evolving and getting quicker throughout the day.

Greiner on pole for ENS Round 2

Greiner on pole for ENS Round 2

Last year he won a wet race in Austria from 3rd on the grid but after a super close final qualifier Dominic Greiner will start the second round of the Euro Nitro Series from pole position.  In contrasting weather conditions to last season at the Aigen-Schlägl track, Greiner went into the final qualifier in a head to head battle with ENS Italy Top Qualifier Teemu Leino.  While Leino would do what he had to and post his second TQ run, matching Greiner, it was a blistering fastest last lap that would secure the German his second ever ENS TQ.  Getting ahead of Leino’s team-mate Jilles Groskamp for a P2 as a result of the lap it was this race time that would give the factory Serpent driver the tie break by just 0.15 of a second. On his first visit to the difficult track Groskamp will line up 3rd with Capricorn’s Thilo Todtmann securing 4th.
