Herfried Pucher wins Austrian 1/8th on-road nationals

Herfried Pucher wins Austrian 1/8th on-road nationals

The final round of the Austrian nitro on-road nationals took place at the Amstetten track. Herfried Pucher, Nejc Mihelic and Manuel Gremlica all had the chance to take the 2013 national title and during the practice sessions Pucher made his intentions clear to win his third title after taking the 1997 and 2008 championship. He was able to conserve his performance for the final where he started second and soon overtook Gremlica to take the lead and never looked back. Pucher was later able to cruise to the victory as his closest competitors ran into trouble; Gremlica’s car suffered clutch issues and Njec had a coming together with another driver resulting in an additional pit stop. At the end, Herfried won the race almost four laps ahead of Njec and Höller Helmut. The win also secured him the national title in front of Manuel Gremlica and Nejc Mihelic.

Sági Tamás wins at Hungarian on-road champs Rd8

Sági Tamás wins at Hungarian on-road champs Rd8

The 8th and final round of the Hungarian On-Road Championships was held at the Hungaroring. The organising club did a perfect job and even sugar-watered the track to make for perfect grip conditions and virtually no dust to right from the start. The track was run in clockwise direction this time meaning right-handed mechanics had to practice refuelling a bit. As for the results, in the 1/10th 200mm Stock class Sági Tamás took home the win in order to grab the runner-up spot in the 2013 national championship. Varsányi Péter, who already won this year’s championship by taking the penultimate round some weeks ago, came in fifth place. Sági Tamás then went on to win the 1/8 class, securing him the runner-up spot and vice championship in the 8th class also.

The 2013 Gas Championships were held this past weekend at Thunder Alley Raceway in Beaumont, CA. The weather was perfect and Levi Jackson built another great layout with Jimmy Babcock making the race director keeping the sold out program running smooth. The Gas Champs is a unique race that runs a heads up racing format for both qualifying and the finals. Each driver had 1 round of practice on Saturday morning, followed by three rounds of qualifying and double A Mains on Sunday. Team Losi Racing and Pro-Line were two of the major event sponsors. In the 1/8th Expert Buggy and Expert truck class TLR’s Adam Drake had a great weekend TQ-ing both classes and also winning them both later on.

Bernd Hasselbring wins 200mm at 40+ Euros

Bernd Hasselbring wins 200mm at 40+ Euros

The EFRA Nitro On-Road 40+ European Championship took place at the famous La Turbie track in Monaco with its fast and flowing layout and the challenging bumps in the Parabolica corner. The practice sessions of the 1/10th 200mm class had Germany’s Hartmut Rose, Daniel Grosso (Monaco), Alexander Naumov (Russia) and Bernd Hasselbring (Germany) pulling the fastest laps and it was obvious that these drivers would be hot candidates to battle for the 40+ title. Come qualifying things looked a bit different as one or the other driver struggled to convert a single fast lap into consistent 5 minute runs.

Stuiver wins at Dutch champs, Rombouts champion

Stuiver wins at Dutch champs, Rombouts champion

The AMCA Apledoorn track saw the final round of the Dutch 1/10th nitro on-road championship. This time no Kyosho World Cup driver attended due to the KWC International Race but a couple of guests filled up the NK clas field nicely. Daan Stuiver finally got it together having a perfect weekend, just beating Pedro Rombouts to the pole in front of Julius Kolff. Sander Borghoff completed the top 4. In the final Daan took the gamble and selected a car that was good in the beginning of the race. Julius gambled as well but it did not work out for him. At the end Daan took the win one lap ahead of Pedro with Ruud Schuitemaker completing the podium. Milan Holthuis came in fourth, Julius Kolff completed the top 5. In the championship, it was between Roy Bakker and Pedro Rombouts. Pedro missed one race and had to end up in front of Roy Bakker while Roy had to finish five places in front of Pedro. Unfortunately Roy did not have the speed this weekend to challenge Pedro so the latter took the championship again.

International Romanian Nitro Cup – Report

International Romanian Nitro Cup – Report

The International Romanian Nitro Cup took place last weekend at the new Hobby Arena circuit near Bucharest. The new built track shares many of the facilities you will find rather on a F1 circuit: Big scale scoreboard, displays everywhere, everything you could imagine and some more you would not expect on a regular RC track. As traction additives were strictly forbidden the track itself was treated giving the brand new asphalt layer a good amount of grip. The race schedule had Friday and Saturday for free practice, controlled practice, qualifications and the first round of semifinals for both 1/10 and 1/8.
