33rd 1:8 Offroad Euros underway in Reims

The 33rd running of the 1:8 Offroad European Championships got underway this morning in France with Day 1 of the event, which will come to a conclusion on Saturday, set to be a rather uneventful affair with just 3 rounds of untimed practice making up today’s schedule.  Having had the Warm-up race cancelled just as the Semi-finals got underway due to rain, the hot sunny weather that has greeted drivers on their arrival to the famous Champagne producing city has created a totally different set of track conditions with tyre choice set to be the key factor to the outcome of the race.

BRCA 1/8th Truggy & Electric Rd4 – Report

The BRCA Truggy and Electric 1/8th national series descended on a new dirt track for the series which was the NRC track near Bromsgrove, Birmingham. The track looked in tip top condition when the pilots arrived. Due the temperature at 7 o’clock they even had the sprinklers on. The lay out comprised of some nice well thought technical sections. Normal situation started at 9 o’clock with the Electric buggies starting of the meeting for the first of their three qualifying runs. It was evident from the first runs that it would not be a walk in the park. The weather was going to be a challenge for all drivers and cars as well as the track. The track started off quite loose but the wider Truggy tyres helped to push the lose dirt to sides which made the racing line starting to blue groove.

Raiola Carmine is 2013 Italian Champion

Raiola Carmine is 2013 Italian Champion

Having previously written about the final round of the 2013 Italian 1/8th scale Championship which took place at the fantastic Cassino track we neglected to mention the title fight which was won by Raiola Carmine. The Xray driver was already very close to the championship title after taking the win in Gubbio and being 4th in Bologna. On Saturday, only two rounds of qualifying could be run due to the rain. Carmine finished 6th but had a good pace for the finals. In the finals we saw a thrilling one hour race. Carmine was driving safe to keep the 3rd place which was enough for the overall victory. His competitors who need to win were driving hard to get the win. Carmine avoid any kind of fighting and his 3rd final position in the race brought him the 2013 national champion title, quite an achievement against some of the best drivers in the world.

The Car Modelling Association of China have contacted us to invite everyone to the 2013 FEMCA Championships for 1/8th buggy and 1/10th ISTC which takes place in Beijing from the 18th to the 28th of August. The organisers are putting in a huge effort to make this an amazing race with a new purpose built facility for offroad located in the Fengtai Sports Center, which hosted many major sports events including the softball during the Olympics, as well as the already existing tarmac onroad track which previously hosted the Beijing International RC Invitational. Together with Masami Hirosaka, Trevor Reid and Charlie Siribodhi from FEMCA they will ensure that this a well run event. China is still an emerging market for RC and believe it or not this will be one of the first major Championships to be held on the mainland.
