Pedro Rombouts wins Rd3 of Dutch Nationals

Pedro Rombouts wins Rd3 of Dutch Nationals

Last weekend saw the 3rd round of the Dutch 1/10th Nationals held at the Rucphen track. With a disappointingly low turnout it was round 2 winner Julius Kolff (Serpent) who would take the TQ spot with his first run of the day and while other drivers improved their times throughout the day, they couldn’t beat his original time. The first 10 minutes of the main saw a good battle between Julius and Pedro Rombouts (Xray), the pairing running closely with Pedro taking the lead after a quicker first fuel stop before the battle continued. Unfortunately Julius ran into engine troubles and lost 2 laps before getting back on track still in 2nd. The battle for 3rd was between Roy Bakker (Capricorn) and Ruud Schuitmaker (Edam) with the positions changing due to pit stops but eventually Schuitmaker would have a an issue 2 minutes from the end which would end his race. The final order was Rombouts taking the win ahead of Kolff in 2nd and Bakker 3rd.

Lars Hoppe takes Rd2 in Northern Germany

Lars Hoppe takes Rd2 in Northern Germany

Last weekend the 2nd round of the North German Championship took place at the MACH Hamburg track. Saturday started with free practise on a slippery track but the traction got better and better during the day. Already in practise the Shepherd/Sonic drivers Lars Hoppe and Timo Schröder had a good pace which they kept all weekend. In qualfying Lars took the TQ spot with his Sonic powered Velox V8 Pro in front of Timo using the same pacakge and Ingo Bobrowski in third. As the tyre wear was quite high a smooth driving style was required for the final. After the start Lars immediately pulled away followed by Timo and Ingo. Lap by lap he increased the lead and never looked back. After 30min he crossed the finishing line in first position followed by Timo in 2nd with Ingo completing the podium.

Mikael Fransson wins 2013 1/8th Nordic Championship

Mikael Fransson wins 2013 1/8th Nordic Championship

Last weekend the Nordic Championship 1:8 Track took place at Hverven Raceway just outside Oslo in Norway. The track hosted the European Championship back in 2003 and is placed with a beautiful view over the Oslo fjord. We had perfect conditions for practice on Friday and the track was super fast. Saturday came with a clear blue sky and sun throughout the whole day. As the weather forecast predicted rain on Sunday we decided to run the entire event on one day, this is possible in the land of the midnight sun. A new time scheme was made with 3 qualification rounds and all finals, with the last final run at 21:30.

Vogl & Nähr victorious in Southern Germany Rd3

Vogl & Nähr victorious in Southern Germany Rd3

The 3rd round of the South German Championship in Türkheim saw a clean sweep for Team Shepherd with victories in all three classes. In 1/8 class 2 it was young Shepherd driver Max Günther taking the win while Maxi Vogl won the 1/8 class 1 with Patrick Nähr completing the perfect result by winning the 1/10 touring class. In the south of Germany the 1/8 classes are raced together so the main final was a mix of class 1 and class 2 drivers. Starting from the pole-position after he won his semi-final Maxi immediately took control of the race and pulled away followed by Armin Baier and Bastian Gramlich. At the 20 min mark it was time for some fresh outside tyres for Maxi, while the rest of the field chose to finish the race with one set. Although Maxi retained the lead the gap was closer after the tyre change and due to Maxi’s engine getting a little bit rich the final minutes saw some close racing with Armin Baier and Bastian Gramlich trying to catch up. Maxi stayed calm and crossed the finishing line in first position about 2 sec in front of Armin Baier with Bastian Gramlich completing the podium.
