Daniel Sieber takes European 1/8th 'B' title

The 1/8th scale EFRA European ‘B’ Championships were held this week at MAV Raceway in Aigen, Austria, the first EFRA Nitro Championship to use single brand hand out tires. With 91 drivers in attendance they had to deal with not only unseasonal single figure temperatures but also on and off rain throughout the event. Qualifying would go the way of Shepherd/Sonic driver Daniel Sieber claiming the only 20 lap run to claim the TQ spot with Maxi Vogl (Shepherd/Sonic) and Rene Püpke (Serpent/Xceed) completing an all German top 3 with Switzerland’s Claudio Pasquin taking 4th. Semi A would see Sieber cruise through to take the pole position for the main while Semi B would see the end of the meeting for Vogl and Pasquin, Nejc Mihelic taking the win. In the final it was to be a close finish with Sieber again being the man to beat, taking the win and European ‘B’ title ahead of Spain’s Nacho Lopez (Serpent/Xceed) in 2nd, 3 seconds behind the winner, with Michael Klausner (Mugen/Novarossi) claiming the final podium spot 3 tenths of a second back for an amazingly close finish.

Apolaro & Swauger win 2013 KO Grand Prix

Apolaro & Swauger win 2013 KO Grand Prix

DJ Apolaro report from last weekend’s Annual KO Grand Prix Race in California where there was a very good turn out with the Nationals being later this year at the same track. ‘They must have had over 140 racers between all classes. Kenny Ives and myself showed up Friday morning like most of the out of towner’s to practice and they also run 1 qualifier on Friday as well. My 1/8 scale felt really good from the start and my sedan was needing some work. With racers like Swauger, Burch, Paolo and others, it was a good time to see how our package compared and what we needed to improve. For sure the racers that make 5 minutes have a great advantage. In sedan I had no issues with run time, but with 1/8 scale the stars had to align to make this happen.

Michael Kammer wins East German regionals Rd2

The second round of the East German nitro on-road Championship took place at the fast track of Leipzig. A total of 22 drivers found the way to Leipzig with Shepherd racer Michael Kammer being one of them to score for the East German Championship. On Saturday the whole day the track was wet so the qualifying took place on Sunday morning under better weather conditions. In the last round of qualifying Michael secured himself the TQ spot to start the 30-minutes finale from the pole-position in front of reigning German 1/8 Champion Toni Gruber. At the start he could defend his lead chased be Toni Gruber close behind him. After a few laps Toni made a driving error followed by an unscheduled visit in the pitlane which cost a lot of time. Increasing his lead lap by lap Michael never looked back and crossed the finishing line four laps in front of Toni with Wilfried Stecker completing the podium.

Paddy Piston Race – Announcement

Paddy Piston Race - Announcement

Our friends at 1:8 Offroad racing club BADMCC in Northern Ireland have been in contact to let us now about their upcoming (25-26 May) Paddy Piston Race which is now in its fifth year.  Held at the club’s impressive track in Graigavon, on which they have carried out extensive work in preparation for the big event, former winners of the race include European Champion Darren Bloomfield, Richard Cree and Graham Alsop who returns this year in search of a hat trick of wins having won the event for the past two years. With the emphasis on offering drivers a great weekend of value, fun and hospitality, the race format will see all drivers get almost 2-hours of track time and on Saturday night the club will host a BBQ, which we have heard can run late into the night. Restricted to 84 drivers, the race uses a controlled tyre with a set, along with inserts and wheels included in the entry fee.  A small number of places are still available for the Paddy Piston Race and interested drivers should contact the club at badmcc@talktalk.net.
