Michele Romagnoli wins Italian 1/8th Nats Rd2

Michele Romagnoli wins Italian 1/8th Nats Rd2

Last weekend the 2nd round of the Italian 1/8th scale On-Road Nationals took place at the ultra fast Pista Futura track in Bologna in the North of the country. After qualifying Shepherd/Sonic driver Michele Romagnoli was ranked on the 3rd place in the expert class qualifying himself directly for the 1 hour long main final behind pole man Dario Balestri and 2nd placed Carmine Raiola, with Alberto Picco completing the top 4. As the engines get very stressed on this high-speed circuit Michele decided to run a safe tactic and started with a moderate pace. About 35 minutes into the race Michele took over the lead and controlled the race for the following minutes. 2 minutes before the end he flamed out, but thanks to his fast mechanic and brother Samuele he re-joined the track just in front of Alberto Picco who was running in second position. This was the order they finished with Massimo Fantini taking 3rd. The win gave Michele maximum points for the championship standings in which he has now taken over the lead.

Mark Green wins Rd2 of British 200mm Nats

Round 2 of the British 1/10 Championship was held last weekend at the Wombwell track. The weather was good with sunshine and warm temperatures on Saturday, and we even managed a dry Sunday despite the forecast being for rain. As the cars went out for practice it was clear that there was very little grip, although by the end of the day the traction had improved considerably. In 200mm it was the three 747’s of Mark Green, Joe Kerry, and Alex Thurston, who just like at the last round were considerably quicker than anyone else.

Mark Green takes Rd2 of BRCA 1/8th Nats

Mark Green takes Rd2 of BRCA 1/8th Nats

The start of the 2013 racing season began with round 2 at Cotswolds 2 weeks ago. You must think there must be a typo error but we actually did start with round 2 since the scheduled first round at Wombwell had to be cancelled due to the snowy weather that hit the country in March. The entry for this round was lower than expected but still had a very competitive feeling which made for some close racing at all levels. Saturday was practice day and surprisingly the track was dry which enabled drivers to run their new engines in and also run their new cars for the first time. The lap times upfront are around the low 15 second bracket and if you can break consistently below this mark, then that is the golden ticket to having a good shot at TQ. The man to beat was Kyle Branson who was setting lap times consistently in the 14.7 second bracket and was clearly the class of the field with Mark Green being the next best. The remaining drivers of Wood, North, The Hastings duo, Dransfield, Thurston, Carr and Frost where in close pursuit.

The Xray Challenge Greece was held last weekend at the FRT track outside of Athens and this report is by Alexander Hagberg. ‘The track is huge by its size, comparable to the famous Lostallo track in Switzerland. It has been the host of numerous EFRA European Championship events in the past, so the quality of the track is very good. This time, the race featured the 1/10 GP and 1/10 EP Modified classes. A total entry count of around 50 had joined the event which was held over one day. The weather was sunny and reaching well over 20 degrees C, which meant perfect racing conditions.

In the main final Zanchettin opened up a large gap while the fight for second place was between Fabrizio Teghesi and Davide Tortorici fighting continuously for the entire 45-minute race. Near the end of the final Zanchettin made 3 big mistakes and so in the last 3 laps it was a three way battle for the win. Zac Ryan wins Malaysian buggy nats Rd2

Zac Ryan wins Malaysian buggy nats Rd2

Malaysia has become a hotbed of off-road nitro racing in the past couple of years. This past weekend with the effort of the new Putrajaya club and Alvin Lam along with the huge support of the local Putrajaya city and government officials a new track was launched. The Putrajaya city is creating sporting facilities for Malaysians to enjoy and within 100m of the new track were a RC flying field, RC drift track, a lake for RC boating and a world-class swimming complex. Supported by beautiful hotels set on the water it’s a great place to race. 135 drivers from Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, and Brunei attended and would contest the second round of the national’s. Qualifying would be 3 rounds of 10-minute heats with the best 2 of 3 to count. Round one ended up being dropped due to a transponder loop issue so it would be best 1 of 2 rounds to count on Saturday. TQ went to new factory JConcepts driver Zac Ryan from Australia. With his first outing on the JC rubber and a brand new MP9 Tki3 he would be tough to beat as he led the timesheets. Close behind him was Felix Tan (JQ/GO/AKA) and Didier Perrin (Mugen/Novarossi/AKA).
