Robert Batlle wins 4 from 4 in Spain

Last weekend saw the 4th and final round of the Spanish 1/8 Off Road Nats take place in Silla (Valencia). Rain on Friday stopped action on track but helped to eliminate the dust from the track and increase the grip, leaving a very nice surface for Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Robert Batlle took the TQ spot followed by Andrés Marcelino and Borja Hernández. The ‘A’ semi final was also won by Robert Batlle while rising star Ignacio Candel took the ‘B’ semi final, which mirrored the final  result with Borja Hernandez completing the top 3. With this victory Batlle takes a clean sweep of the 2012 Nationals and wins 5 series in a row.

Reno Savoya wins Sweep Challenge

The 2012 Sweep Challenge took place at a small red clay and US-style track in Koraa with nearly 130 drivers from Indonesia, Malaysia and Korea in attendance. Xray and Sweep team driver Reno Savoya, just coming back from the 2012 World warm-up race in Argentina, also made the trip in order to help the local Xray drivers with setup. Reno went to TQ all qualifying rounds and was well prepared for the night time main final but on the tone the Frenchman ran into trouble by crashing too much and being stuck in traffic. This allowed Dani Choi to open a gab at the front of the pack but Reno was pushing and able to take the lead around the 20 minutes mark. Thanks to 10 minutes fuel stints he was able to retain the lead and to win the 40 minutes final very close from lapping the second place finisher.

Just like the years before Gergely Csekő took the title in a really close battle with Simon Ciudan (Shepherd). Gergely skipped the last race which left Simon without a real opponent. He won the race although Balázs Bihari was quite close in the 30 minutes final and finished only one lap behind the fast Shepherd driver. Gábor László completed the podium. With this first place Simon equaled Gergely on the point table, but Gergely won the title because he had one more on his side.
