Hildesheim was location of penultimate round of the North German championships last weekend and Andreas Giesa produced this report. “Unfortunately the weather forecast was not good for this weekend and rain was expected. We started practice under dry conditions on Saturday morning and with my setup, which worked well last race in Braunschweig. There were only a few changes needed to adapt the 747 on this track. I used both shock and ARB extensions this time and got more steering on throttle and in fast corners and again the Xceed Spark body.

Double victory & title for Coelho in Portugal Rd4

Last weekend saw the 4th round of the Portuguese gas on road nationals at the Vila Real circuit where this year’s 1/8th scale European Championships will be held at the start of next month. The race saw Mugen Novarossi driver Bruno Coelho TQ and win both the 1/8th and 1/10th scale 200mm classes as well as retain both his national titles. The track was very abrasive and the tires could only last ten minutes, so Bruno had to drive very carefully and conserve tires in a race of tactics rather than out and out performance. The 1/8th scale main saw Coelho take the win by 2 laps ahead of Jose Pequito in 2nd and Jose Carlos in 3rd. In the 1/10th scale class the margin of victory for Bruno was 4 laps ahead of Mário Miranda in 2nd and Hugo Mendes in 3rd.

Mark Green wins Rd5 of BRCA 200mm series

The 5th round of the British 200mm championship was held at the excellent Cotswold circuit. The forecast for the weekend looked really bad with heavy rain predicted for both Saturday and Sunday. Current championship leader Mark Green faced some tougher competition at the front this meeting with the returning Kyle Branson looking very quick during practice. Much of Saturday’s practice was spent testing damp/rubber tyres under the wet conditions. Around 1 hour from the 6pm finish time the track was almost completely dry which caused a big rush of drivers trying to get out on track. They actually had to queue up for a space on the rostrum as everybody tried to make the most of the remaining time.

DJ Apolaro & Kenny Ives victorious at Airtronics GP

The Airtronics GP race took place in California this past weekend and it was DJ Apolaro that took the TQ and win in the Sedan class with Kenny Ives taking the win in 1/8 scale. With tires and fuel playing a big role for this parking lot track, both DJ and Kenny were the only drivers able to pit at the 5 minute mark in the finals. DJ Apolaro would make a tire change in the Sedan final and still go on to take a convincing win with his Novarossi powered Capricorn C-02. In the 1/8 class Kenny Ives, after bumping up from the B main, was able to take advantage of the great fuel mileage given by the Kosmic Fuel and also no tire change strategy. Kenny would work his way to the top with consistent fast driving and sticking to his strategy. Chris Verano would make a charge back, but come up short, as Kenny was able make a pass on him and stay in front. Tires and fuel played a big role and Kenny made all the right moves, taking his Novarossi powered Capricorn C-801 to the winners circle.
