Round one of the 1/8 nitro Western German Championship saw Tobias Hepp taking full points for the qualification of the German Nationals which will be held in September in Roetz in Southern Germany. The 16 years old Hepp achieved his victory in class 1 in front of Steven Cuypers and Frank Schewiola while 15 years old Jean-Pierre Roenicke with his victory in class 2 making it a day for the youth.

The Italian 1/8th buggy Nationals got underway this weekend at the Valley Sporting Club in Alberobello in the very south of the country. Reigning champion Riccardo Rabitti managed to TQ the event with his Picco powered Losi, ahead of Mugen/Reds Racing driver Fabio Boero, with multiple Champion Davide Tortorici in 3rd. Things would go badly for Rabitti in his semi final, a number of problems in his race saw him lose too much time and so failed to bump into the main event. Fabio Boero would start from the pole position for the hour long race, with Carlo Jacopini lining up just behind him. In the race itself, it was Riccardo Perin that took the early lead, while behind it was Jacopini in 2nd being chased by a hard recovering Boero who had lost a lot of time on lap 2. Just before the half way point Perin hit trouble, and with Boero up to 2nd he was able to pounce and take the lead, which he held on to until the end. Davide Tortorici took 2nd place, passing Fabrizio Teghesi a few laps before the end, demoting the Kyosho driver to 3rd spot by the flag.
The opening round of the Danish 1/8th off road Nationals took place this weekend with nice sunny weather in Hillerød on the challenging NXC track north of Copenhagen. Peter Harder with his Novarossi powered Xray 808 took a strong victory leading from early on to win by 3 laps from Losi driver Silas Høgholt Pedersen, with HongNor driver Tim Culmsee completing the top 3.

The organisers of the 2010 Short Course Nationals to be held at R/C Madness in Enfield, CT were in touch to promote their event which takes place from the 9th to 11th of July. As the name suggests, the race is only open to short course vehicles by encompasses 7 classes including Slash spec, 2wd stock, 2wd open, 4wd electric small block, 4wd electric big block, mini short course open and finally 4wd nitro open. Italian company Hot Race Tyres have signed front running Swiss driver Shasa Lackner to run their tires in both 1/8th and 1/10th scale for the 2010 season. The Motonica driver, who just signed for Team Magic in 1/10th scale, used the tires to great success, winning the opening round of the Swiss 1/8th scale Nationals in Lostallo last weekend.
AKA have announced that Matt Gosch has joined their team for the coming season. “Matt and his dad are some of the nicest people you will meet and we are very proud to be apart of what they bring on and off the track”. In Matt’s first race out on AKA tires he TQ’d and won the event and was very impressed with how little the tires wore yet still produced great traction.

This past weekend saw Rd1 of the RC Pro South Division take place in Austin, TX. The field was full of quality drivers from all over the state and even some from other divisions, such as Ryan Lopez, who made the trip over for the 250+ entry event. Team Pro-Line driver Kyle Skidmore put on a show in Pro Buggy by TQ’ing 3 of 4 rounds and he would also take the win ahead of Ryan Lopez in 2nd and Mike Battaile in 3rd. In Pro Arena Truck Jason Branham matched Kyle’s performance by also TQ’ing 3 of 4 rounds and going on to take the win ahead of Mike Battaile and Ryan Lopez in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
