Neil Cragg wins Rd1 of BRCA 1/8th Off-Road series

As has become the norm in recent years, the Frankley Model Car Club played host to the opening round of the BRCA 1/8th Off-Road series. The main reason for having the astro turf tracks at the beginning of the championship is to guard against inclement weather, however this year the sun was out and it was T-shirt and shorts weather, which is pretty rare in April. Qualifying got underway with last year’s Champion Neil Cragg starting where he left off, by taking the first round win of the new season in convincing style with his Reedy/Byron powered RC8B. The new ST Reedy engine looking particularly strong at this fast track where power is a factor. Team mate Craig Drescher backed Neil up in second with his sister car and with Dave Bailey’s RB powered RC8B in fourth the Associated team were fast out of the blocks.

Batlle gets title defense off to perfect start

Batlle gets title defense off to perfect start

The Spanish 1/8th buggy Nationals kicked off last weekend in Lebrija, in the very south of the country, close to Seville. Qualifying for this event saw defending champion Robert Batlle place his Associated chassis on the TQ spot in front of Miguel Martin, Borja Hernandez, Bryan Baldo and Dani Bernabe completing the top 5. Following the Semi Finals it was Batlle who would line up on pole position for the 45 minute final with Antonio Salmeron lining up 2nd. From the off Batlle dropped down the order allowing Salmeron into the lead followed closely by Hernandez. The pair would battle hard until lap 14 when Salmeron dropped out of contention followed a lap later by Hernandez, all the while Batlle was moving up the order, taking the lead on lap 16, a position who wouldn’t relinquish to take the win just in front of Mugen driver Alberto Garcia in 2nd and Juanma Vera in 3rd.

Shasa Lackner dominates Swiss 1/8th Nats Rd1

Last weekend saw the opening round of the Swiss Championship take place in Lostallo, home of last year’s World Championships. Qualifying saw Motonica team driver Shasa Lackner take the pole position with a fastest lap of 19.90 seconds, the only driver to go under the magical 20 seconds, to end up 3 seconds clear of 2nd place qualifier Silvio Hächler. Simon Kurzbuch and Luca Martinelli completed the top 4 direct qualifiers following the 7 minute heats. In the final an early problem for the pole man Lackner saw him lose 2 laps as he needed to replace the gearbox, but a determined drive to the end of the 45 minute final saw him claw back the time to win by 1 lap ahead of Silvio Hächler in 2nd and Luca Martinelli in 3rd a lap further back.

Maxime Favrelle wins French 1/10th Nats Rd2

Shepherd are reporting on last weekend’s second round of the French 1/10 On-Road National Championship that was held in Nantes in the West of the Country. With 27 entries in the Elite class and 60 entries in National class, it was a really good participation. The qualification was very tight and saw Adrien Bertin taking the TQ in front of Thomas Eytard, Maxime Favrelle and Basile Concialdi who took the last spot for the direct final. In the final Favrelle had the best start and managed to increase is lead to 1 lap over the rest of the field in the early stage of the race, but his engine stalled after the first half of the race and he lost some time. With a strong and aggressive run Favrelle could manage to recover and take over the lead again just a few minutes before the end. At this time Desmaries was on 2nd position, but also his engine stalled and he dropped down to 7th position gifting Basile Concialdi with the runner up spot, just in front of Thomas Eytard.
