Tom & Jochen Wiesner join Team SMI

SMI Motorsport have announced that father and son team, Tom and Jochen Wiesner, have both made the switch to use Xray cars, Hudy accessories as well as the complete SMI / Orcan range including engines, fuel and maintenance products. They will both compete regionally, in the Mid division (Hessencup), as well as in the German championship in Sand and Fischach. Both, Tom and Jochen Wiesner, are very experienced and successful racers and had the following to say about the deal:

We are confident in the products and their quality and wish a lot success and good cooperation with the very successful SMI Team.

Serpent Nitro Tour Fiorano report

The Serpent Nitro Tour kicked off in Fiorano last weekend and Shepherd driver and race runner up Simon Kurzbuch sent us this report. Me, my family and Rolf Suter from RA Speed Switzerland went last weekend with well prepared cars to Fiorano (Italy) and had an excellent roll-out on the first international race in the 1/8 scale season 2010.

Team Shepherd confirm Marc Rheinard for 2010

Shepherd are announcing that one of the world’s best rc-car drivers joins their team for the upcoming season. Marc Rheinard, 2-times IFMAR World Champion, 3-times EFRA European Champion and multi German National Champion, has decided to use the Shepherd Velox V10 at this years World Championship in Houston as well as at the European Championship in Goteborg. He will part of the Shepherd factory team to support them with all his racing experience. Marc had the following to say:

I’m really happy to be a part of the Shepherd Team for the upcoming season. It will be nice for me to work together with world class drivers like the reigning World Champion Daniele Ielasi, the former Worlds TQ driver Jilles Groskamp and all the other drivers in the team. I’m pretty sure that the support from Shepherd will be the best I can get and we are looking forward to have some good results at the Worlds and the Euros this year.

Matrix Tires sign Raimondo Gilletti

Matrix racing tires have announced that Raimondo Gilletti will join their already impressive team for the 2010 season. The Italian factory Team Magic/Novarossi driver will use Matrix tires in all of this year’s Italian National championship rounds as well as during the 1/10th 200mm World Championships that take place this summer in the USA. Raimondo’s 2010 campaign is also supported by Savox and Dynamic Fuel.

Exciting season opener for the Nitro West Masters at Oberhausen

There are a couple of question marks when the first round of the Nitro West Masters is held on the Easter weekend at Oberhausen: Who has changed chassis? Who is racing which engine? Who is already well prepared after the long winter? How are the new balance of power in the 1/8 and 1/10 nitro on road classes? The season opener on the 3rd and 4th of April at the old-established race track of the MRC Alstaden Oberhausen in Western Germany will for sure shed light but many drivers will put their cards on the table probably not before the races for the Western German Championships. Nevertheless, the Easter weekend offers a good opportunity to zero in on qualifying for the Nationals.

Robert Batlle joins Spektrum

Horizon Hobby have announced that former European Champion and multiple Spanish National Champion Robert Batlle has chosen to use Spektrum DX3R radio, receivers and servos in his RC8 buggy. Robert had the following to say about the deal:

I’m excited to race with Spektrum, they are the first factory selling 2.4 system, I think this is the future so my team has decided to start working hard with them. The radio is really lighter and servos are perfect so I cannot want anything else. I hope achieve good results this year and I hope to help Spektrum in all we can.

Niki Duina signs for Capricorn

Capricorn RC have announced that front running Italian touring car racer Niki Duina has joined their team for 2010. The former Xray driver will race the company’s new LAB-C01 chassis which has been proving quite competitive in the hands of new team mate Chris Tosolini, and will compete in the Italian Nationals together with this year’s World Championship in Houston, Texas.

Tobias Hepp confirmed at Serpent

Following a deal with Shepherd to supply him with their own brand tires, MLC fuel and Novarossi engines, Tobias Hepp has also been confirmed with Serpent for 2010. The Serpent 966 is very much to Tobias’ liking and he expects to do very well in the Germans Nationals and this year’s European Championship in Italy. The co-operation with Michael Salven is working really well at races and together with the help of his dad/mechanic Rudiger Hepp it has enabled Tobais to continue to get faster. Tobias will also race a number of 1/10th races with the Serpent 733 in 2010.
