Robert Pietsch dominates Rd1 German Region South Series

German Region South Series

Last weekend, the MAC NÃ¼rnberg hosted the first round of the German Region South Series at their track, the NÃ¼rnberg Zollhausring. The event was open to both 1/8th and 1/10th scale classes and in the 1/8th scale class it was Robert Pietsch, driving the new Shepherd Velox prototype, that took the pole position ahead of Kyosho racer Andreas Hammerl who qualified 2nd with Philip Eberle in 3rd. In the race it started well for Pietsch, but a coming together with a few back markers dropped him back to 5th which allowed Hammerl to take the lead, but the Shepherd racer was able to work his way back up to 1st to win by 2 laps at the flag. Andreas Hammerl finished 2nd with Serpent racer Michael Eisele in 3rd.

In the 1/10th scale class it was Thomas GÃ¼nsel, driving the Xray NT1, that took the pole spot from team mates Robert Pietsch and Dirk Wischnewski, who qualified 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the race it was Robert Pietsch that could take the win after pole man GÃ¼nsel ran into troubles which also allowed Wischnewski move up into 2nd at the end with Christoph Pietsch claiming the final podium spot in 3rd.

Robert Raphael wins Rd1 Belgian Nats

We were contacted by the people from TT World Modellisme to give us the results from last weekends first round of the Belgian 1/8th Buggy nationals. The event was won by HoBao racer, and runner up at last months Belgian GP, Robert Raphael who won easily by 10 laps from 2nd placed Xray driver Nickel CÃ©dric with 3rd position going to a Kyosho driver Soyeurt Gregory, who finished a further 4 laps back.

Dario Vita wins German West Rd1

A quick report from the German West off road qualification race that took place last weekend at the MFK KÃ¼rten track. The race was won by Mugen racer Dario Vita, of Vita Tuning, with another Mugen in 2nd driven by Marcel Guske, while a 3rd Mugen driven by Frank Derksen gave the MBX5R a complete lockout of the podium.

Alex Laffranchi joins Xray

Alex Laffranchi joins XRAY

Our partners Neo Buggy are reporting that 1996 World Champion Alex Laffranchi (old photo) has left Crono to race for Xray. Alex already had his first race this weekend at a regional championships race in Italy in which he used the XRAY XB8 EC. Alex, who was a long time Thunder Tiger driver, only joined Crono at the start of the 2006 season and has left after just 1 year, he will however stay with OS engines for the 2007 season.

Sam Poon wins Rd1 of Chinese Nationals

This weekend saw the first round of the Chinese National league take place in Shenzhen, China. It was Kyosho driver Hu Wei Peng that took the top qualifier spot but in the race it was Sam Poon, driving a Nanda NRB-3, that took the win, followed home by another Nanda racer ZhiJian Woo in 2nd while 3rd position went to Zhan Wei driving a Kyosho MP777.

Arto Heinonen wins Koski Challenge

CEN contacted us to tell us that their man Arto Heinonen was unbeatable at the second Koski Challenge indoor race, which was held last weekend at Valkeakoski, Finland. In the buggy class Arto was able to win by a lap ahead of Markku Honkanen while in the truggy class Arto was holding strong the 3rd position until the servo broke in the A-Main resulting him 9th.

John Sotiropoulos wins Rd2 of 2007 1/8th Greek Nats

Serpent are reporting on their teams victory at last weekends round 2 of the Greek 1/8th Nationals. Qualifying his Mega MF powered 960 on pole, round 1 winner, Giannis Sotiropoulos was in full control of proceedings winning the 30 minute encounter from team-mate Mimis Papadopoulos in 2nd with Kyosho driver Leonidas Farmakis in 3rd.

Racer in the Spotlight – Robin D’hondt

Continuing their Racer in the Spotlight series, Serpent have interviewed last weekends Belgian Nationals winner, and 2006 European A Finalist, Robin d’Hondt. Robin has achieved a lot in his short time racing and despite a restricted race program this year, due to school commitments, he will take part in this years European Championships in Lostallo Switzerland as well as competing in his National Championship against team mate Steven Cuypers. As with all driver interviews it gives you a nice insight into the person, so check it out.
