4th Annual Maxy’s Fuel challenge

Maxy's Fuel challenge

Buggy-Sport have a report on last weekends Maxy’s Fuel Challenge held in Hudson, Florida. Due to a last minute date change the 4th running of this event didn’t get the turnout that it expected but racing was still competitive. In the 1/8th Truck main it was Gene Hickersen driving a CEN Matrix that dominated the race ahead of Bobby Moore, driving for Mugen, in 2nd with another CEN racer Kyle Sokol finishing the event in 3rd place. In the 1/8th buggy class it was JR Mitch driving for Thunder Tiger that took the win ahead of 2nd place Losi racer Nathan Wincek with Gary Mazar rounding off the podium for Jammin in 3rd spot.

By the 20 minute mark, Hickerson had lapped the field twice and went into cruise control. Sokol has some problems and dropped back a ways from Moore. Moore was able to get back on the lead lap but ran out of time and that was how the top 3 finished.

Tyler Vik signs for Kyosho

Tyler Vik

Notch up another big name for the Big K with the news that young US hotshot Tyler Vik has defected from Mugen to Kyosho. I know little about Tyler other than hes been pretty quick for a few years and hes an O’Donnell protegé. I do like his expression in the image above though, you think hes comfortable being the filling in this chick sandwich?

Hot shot US Racer Tyler Vik has in a surprise move, joined Kyosho and left Mugen. Tyler has raced for Mugen and O’Donnell for a number of years. He is one of the hottest prospects to come from So Cal in the last few years, at only 15 years old he has a good while to realize his potential.

Ron Maya wins the New Zealand 1/8th Buggy Nats

New Zealand 1/8th Buggy Nats

Ron Maya, driving his Xray XB8TQ buggy has won last weekends New Zealand 1/8th buggy nationals. Held in difficult conditions at the Harewood Radio Control car club, based in Christchurch, the event attracted 55 buggies and 30 truggies all set to battle for the National title. Conditions deteriorated after qualifying when the rain started to pour down during the 1 hour main final making driving very difficult.

By now the clouds had opened and rain fell over most of the track, the back straight section was sheltered by trees so didn’t receive quite as much water. Small puddles started to form leaving some cars to slide off the track. However Ron maintained his cool driving his XB8 TQ very consistently, in fact his lap times were same even near the end of the race when the track was extremely wet as he drove at the start when the track was damp!
