Round 2 of the Italian 1/8th scale on road National Championships were held in Bologna recently where the temperature touched 40 degrees with the track close to 67 degrees. The temperatures were prohibitive for both engines and the cars themselves but it was a useful test ahead of the European Championships which are held this year in Portugal, where temperatures will be even higher. Pole position went to Andrea Pirani followed closely by Lamberto Collari in 2nd with Dario Balestri and Carmine Raiola completing the top 4 direct finalists. The 4th round of the Hungarian Nationals was held at the nice little track in Orosháza. The extreme temperatures were a hard challenge during the whole weekend, on Sunday it was around 39 degrees so it was a real test for the drivers, cars and engines. For Hungarian Shepherd Team it was a really successful weekend as they were able to take the 1st place in every category. 1/10 Stock: In qualifying last year’s champion Balázs Bihari took TQ in front of rookie Shepherd driver Gergล Lehner (Shepherd) and Péter Varsányi. The weekend before last top UK Schumacher Team driver Lloyd Storey traveled over to Bilbao in Spain to compete in round 3 of the 2wd Spanish nationals. The track was the same layout as used at the 2009 Euros, but this time running in the opposite direction and was high grip and bumpy with some difficult jump sections to test the drivers. The format was 8 rounds of controlled practice on Saturday and 5 rounds of qualifying, followed by 3 legged A finals on Sunday. The weather forecast leading up to the event was warm and dry, and didn’t disappoint….

The Circuit Lamberto Collari in Cassino was the host last weekend to top drivers from across Europe including Pietsch, Wischnewski, Spataro, Balestri, Tironi and others, as they took the opportunity to test ahead of August’s 1/10th 200mm Euros on the same track. Qualifying was dominated by KM driver Dario Balestri followed by another Italian driver Biagio Spataro in 2nd while reigning 1/8th scale World Champion Robert Pietsch was 3rd. …hot and humid weather along with the opportunity to earn some cash. Team Associated/Reedy/LRP driver Ryan Maifield was in attendance along with Jason Ruona of JConcepts and set the pace all weekend long. Taking the top qualifying position and win in both 1:8 Buggy and Truggy with this LRP-powered Team Associated RC8.2 and RC8T, Maifield looked comfortable at the LCRC facility. Not to be lost was the strong performance from Maifield’s Team Associated teammate, Gunnar Rieck. The 2012 Reedy Touring car race of champions was held last weekend at Norcal Hobbies in Union City, California. This year’s race attracted a large number of international racers from Europe with a lot of the pro drivers taking the opportunity to test at the track in the week ahead of the event. As per usual the event is heads up racing with the 6 best results from 8 counting towards the final points.
