…Zorn – Schumacher The 17.5T Challenge class saw a really close battle for round two. A few fast guys including Daniel Anthes, the winner of round one, made mistakes and it was Özer Yürüm with Awesomatix who took the win. Stefan Weihmayer finished second only two tenth of a second behind. Third place went to Tim Kuntz. The third 17.5T Challenge qualifier saw Daniel Anthes with a strong showing but he crashed his Serpent half away through the race. Tim Kunz took back the lead and was able to win this round in front of Özer Yürüm and Michael Spiering….

…tried to understand why I like the event I think one of the obvious attractions is the track and the fact that its my first fix of nitro racing after a winter of reporting on electric indoor races. The other is the level of the competition, with an increased number of Europeans each year, the racing has a really competitive feel to it only being trumped by the World Championships, which was a topic that came up quite a bit during the 5 days at the Fear Farm. Due to time constraints and to maintain the world-class nature of the event, Open class entries are limited to 13.5 Blinky (ROAR ESC and motor list) and Modified with total entries capped at 160 (100 13.5, 60 Modified). Each driver is limited to one entry. The second new part is the 2.5° rear hinge pink block that again is machined from high-quality aluminium and it comes black anodised. The suspension mount features 0.5° less toe compared to the kit 3° block for added straight line speed and a more agile handling on high bite tracks. …for the event, the 2-story building that houses an indoor pit area, drivers stand, race control and various meeting rooms was little more than a shell. Over the course of the next two days though it grew around the drivers into Beijing’s only offroad racing facility. While some of the finer details of the building still require finishing, the completion of the racing venue which is part of the Fengtai Technology Sports Stadium complex that includes a stadium built for the 2008 Olympic Games is an important development. …the food because it wasn’t what he was used to in the US. Mark said Ryan, who is a keen nitro racer and he hopes to bring to the US electric Offroad National later this year, is mad to help out particularly with gluing tyre. Joking that he could go glue Proline tyres, he said he gave him the role for the week of collecting and delivery tyres to AKA’s team drivers. Talking about the Reedy Race I didn’t realise that Mark is the only driver to ever win both the offroad and onroad versions of the World famous race….
