The second round of qualifying here in Gothenburg, Sweden has seen no improvements among the front runners as the rain arrived and made the track too slippery to set a fast time. In fact by the time the top heats were out on track, the continuous rain had made it pretty treacherous although some racers including former World Champion Daniele Ielasi, Martin Hudy, Jerome Renaux and Patrick Schaefer took this opportunity to go on track and test for the wet conditions. To clear up some rumors about the Tamiya 201 based Short Course race truck that have been going around, TRF driver Jimmy Wright decided to give us an update. The car was built using the TRF 201 buggy and has been stretched and widened to make it legal for racing under ROAR guidelines by using mostly Tamiya parts and a few from other manufacturers. …about the team’s performance at last month IFMAR ISTC World Championships in Burgdorf, Germany. Arriving home from the official warm-up, we quickly produced some final modifications of the chassis and top deck and a few other minor parts. At the last possible weekend before the Worlds we traveled with Martin, Teemu Leino and Alex Hagberg back to the track. Arriving at the track, we joined the other competing factory teams who also took advantage of last-minute testing time; such is the racing level at the real Worlds, only the traction was different. The 6th round of the BRCA 1/8th scale Nationals saw a second visit to the Mendip circuit at Western super Mare. The usual man to beat, Mark Green was again absent due to concentrating on the up and coming 200mm European Championships in Sweden. Team Serpent however had reinforcements in the form of Kyle Branson after jetting back from the 200mm Worlds the previous weekend. This made the team Sirio driver a hot favourite to have a good result, similar to his win at Cotsword in October 2009. The main suspects all arrived early Saturday morning to run in engines…

…I only could achieve the third best time. We decided to do some small changes in the setup to try to catch Cabezas and Peracho whom were in the two first places. We hardened a little the front anti roll bar, and moved from 1’5º to 2º rear toe-in. So the car in the third round was better but it was much hotter that the previous ones and anyone could improve his time. For the last round we revised the clutch and the car was perfect. …extensive testing I have chosen to run Sweep Racing’s line of offroad and onroad tires. Testing at a private test track showed improved tire wear and lower lap times.
