Xray Column – Testing Always last minute, Always new ideas

The 33rd installment in the Xray column from Xray owner and chief designer Juraj Hudy is now online. In this months column, Juraj takes about fitting in development and testing of their various projects around their very busy Summer racing schedule. As with every other team, we have worked very hard before this particular battle. Work has been done both off and on the track; the huge amount of work would not be feasible for a single person but rather required the combined teamwork of the racing and R&D teams. After the Off-road warm-up in Austria back in May, we…

Dutch Phi-nomenon – Corally RDX Phi 09

…Corally diff grease the item has a reasonable amount of lock upon building. As with the front, the universal CVD driveshafts are equipped with plastic outdrive savers to avoid damage on the rear aluminium outdrives. New to the 09 model are plastic uprights with vertical ballstuds that do away with the machined aluminium/horizontal ballstud items found on the previous car. Xray Column – Heading for the Euros

testing of their XB808 buggy. While testing we exchanged cars with Martin and as usual I felt his car to be much more sensitive with a lot more steering. To get an independent opinion, we gave both my and Martin’s cars to Bayer for testing. Ironically, he reported the opposite: my car had more steering and my shock set-up was more to his personal likeness! That made it very clear that everyone prefers a different handling style and what seems to understeer to one person may seem to oversteer for someone else. Read the full column here. Mission Possible – Schumacher Mi4

UK based company Schumacher’s range of ‘narrow’ electric touring cars has come a long way, since starting in 1996 with the SST, which turned out to be a very successful TC platform. What followed was the exquisite Axis mid-motor cars that proved difficult to set-up but as fast – if not faster – than the SST range of cars. The current Schumacher TC platform is called Mission and has evolved from the Mi2(EC), Mi3 and Mi3.5 that went back to a more conventional design and suspension geometry compared to the Axis chassis. The latest incarnation is the Mi4 that offers…

Martin Bayer wins big at Bokor Cup 2009

…the semi’s Jorn Neumann had engine problems causing him to run at a much reduced speed down the straightaway, infield power was ok, but he was really at a disadvantage on the massive straight. After the semi, I asked him what the problem was and he seems to think it was a problem with his carburetor. He said he will be replacing the carb for the finals. The final was a 45min event. Which is more than an endurance test for not only man but machine? Having all the components work together for that long of a race sometimes can…
